Those are different from mail-in ballots. You need pre-approval and a valid reason to obtain an absentee ballot, so there are way fewer of those than there are mail-in ballots.

Great explanation of the difference here:

https://www.dictionary.com/e/absentee-ballot-vs-mail-in-ballot/

Some handy information about fraud and voting by mail as well:

Misinformation about voting by mail
Since weโ€™re here, letโ€™s put to bed some myths and misinformation about voting by mail:
  • Voting fraud is extremely rare in the US, and voting by mail is no exception. In the past 20 years, over 250,000,000 votes have been cast by mail, and according to data from the Heritage Foundation, there have been only 1,285 proven cases of voter fraud resulting in 1,100 convictions.
  • Studies done by such organizations as Stanford University have found that voting by mail does not favor voter share or turnout of either major political party. Expanding access to voting by mail is generally considered great for all voters and their ability to exercise their right to vote.
Wow!!!

Letโ€™s use the info you just posted. Absentee ballots are more secure from your info. Studies show that mail in doesnโ€™t favor voter share. Again, mail in doesnโ€™t favor voter share!!!

So how did Biden get all those mail in votes again? Lol

Eligible electors can apply to vote by special ballot. With a special ballot, you can vote by mail from anywhere in the world.

If you live in Canada, you may apply once an election has been called.

If you live abroad, you may apply anytime โ€“ click the button below:

So it's not like the US mail-in from what I see!

In a Country that owns Silicon Valley (or vice versa!!!) I can't believe they still have postal votes. So last century lol. I think anyone who wants to be President should automatically be removed from the race. It is a job that I believe is not meant to be held by just one person...no matter who that person is. A thankless task for anyone.

Would the next President (who ever that maybe) please spend the next 4 years working out a voting system that is tamper proof, conspiracy proof and idiot proof. I mean how hard can that actually be? I'd probably have more tech in my library card and that is only used to take out 20 year old books.

Sort it out or I'll.....

I think you're misunderstanding what that means. They're saying that nothing about the mail-in voting process favors one party or another. It doesn't mean that they won't necessarily be used more by one party, particularly when there are outside factors.

Outside factors in this case would be:
  • Trump discouraging mail-in ballots; Biden encouraging them
  • Democrats generally seem more willing to follow public health guidelines by avoiding crowds, and thus would also be more likely to use mail-in ballots.
So in a void, yes there would probably be a 50/50 split between Republican and Democrat mail-in voters. But we're not living in a void. There are external factors.

Wow. Such hostility.

Still waiting to hear about your brave ride through Portland OR carrying an American flag. Like your father fighting fascistic in Europe.

- Dime story patriot.
This thing is really easy to figure out.

The paper of record in Philadelphia is the Philadelphia Inquirer:

https://www.inquirer.com/news/qanon-arrest-philadelphia-plot-election-2020-20201106.html

Show attachment 172738

Now, one of the reasons we know it was two men is that there is both ground footage and helicopter footage of the arrests, which you can watch at any of the local Philly TV News stations, e.g.:

https://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/new...-get-tip-of-convention-center-threat/2587411/

Show attachment 172739
Show attachment 172745

Their vehicle has even received a parking ticket:

Show attachment 172741

From the ground footage and the vehicle details, it is pretty easy to identify one of the guys they arrested:

Show attachment 172743

He is Antonio La Motta who, until quite recently, was proud of having his Hummer in social media:

Show attachment 172744

Among other things, he acted as a bodyguard for Qanon-supporting VA State Senator Amanda Chase when she ran for governor:

And, no, no police department immediately releases the names of arrestees when there is an active investigation going on. They were taken into custody on probable cause of weapons violations, and will likely be booked in the next 12 to 24 hours. Watch for La Motta - who is quite a real person - to come up.

Much different than the syndicated Reuters story. Thank you.

It sounds like they followed due process, no?
In Philadelphia, the vote count paused briefly after GOP observers were admitted to stand within six feet of the tables where workers were tabulating the ballots, thanks to an order from the stateโ€™s Commonwealth Court.

The city quickly appealed the ruling to the state Supreme Court and was awaiting a decision, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

โ€œAs the city appeals, the count is going forward,โ€ said Kevin Feeley, spokesperson for the Philadelphia City Commissioners.

I mean, if there was any funny business then I guess we'll hear about it after the legal proceedings are done.

Letโ€™s simplify this.

There are 50 states, all of which offered some form of mail in ballot. Youโ€™re suggesting that 70% or more of people that requested these mail ins were democratic. The math and probability doesnโ€™t work that way. It would be more closer to 50/50. And you go further to say that itโ€™s somehow tracked, as if Joe requests a ballot for mail in and the powers that be already know how he will vote.

So yes, when basically all the mail in votes go for one guy, well, itโ€™s an obvious red flag.

Not somehow tracked, is tracked. I gave you site and stats.
When they open the ballots and 70% are for Biden, how many are for Biden?

a) 50%
B) 70%

Trump discouraged mail in voting, his followers listen to him and encouraged voting in person.

Went thru all this yesterday, just reread it

It's difficult to believe this is a good faith objection.

The simple fact of the matter is that people's decisions about whether to use mail-in voting were strongly influenced by their perception of risk of going to what are sometimes crowded voting locations or to wait in long lines in them, and potentially be exposed to persons carrying the coronavirus.

Now, one candidate's supporters included a sizeable contingent who, to varying degrees, believes the coronavirus is a hoax, and their candidate was bellowing loud and long for months about mail-in voting being insecure and rife with fraud. This candidate repeatedly and publicly ridiculed people for taking precautions such as wearing masks as being "politically correct". Additionally, that candidate is more popular in rural areas where voting locations tend to be much less crowded.

The other candidate appeared to take the risk of coronavirus much more seriously, and their campaign actively encouraged people to use mail-in voting. Additionally, that candidate is more popular in urban areas where voting locations are habitually sparse and overcrowded.

It seems pretty obvious that, on the subject of coronavirus, the two candidates were actively appealing to different sets of voters, defined by those voters' perceptions of risk from the coronavirus, and that difference of perception certainly informed those voters' choices in the method they chose to vote.

Given that stark factual backdrop in the candidate's expressed attitudes toward the risk of the virus and the security of mail in voting, I can't see why you find it difficult to believe that the mail-in vote skewed more toward one candidate than the other.

To put it another way, I'm going to allow people to do drive-through voting.

One lane is going to be electric and hybrid vehicles.

The other lane is going to be gasoline-powered pickup trucks.

Keith, do you think those two voting lanes will result in the same vote proportions between the two candidates?

I'm not sorting people by political preference, just by vehicles. But simple demographics is going to result in a measurable difference in political preference between those two lanes.

The same is true of the decision, made by millions earlier this year when they had to send in the paperwork (in Delaware it was quite a while ago). That decision was informed by perceptions about the risk posed to the voting process by the pandemic. OF COURSE that was going to skew against a group in which a fair chunk of the voters don't even believe the viral pandemic is a thing.

That would be one heck of a new process! :xf.grin:

If the Prime Minister and President of my little ol' country (Ireland) were in my town this evening we wouldn't need to worry about social distancing as there would be so few people there. It would be like hello Mr Prime Minister, Hello Mr President. Grand. Take care. Bye. Irish people view famous people and / or celebrities so differently. It's almost an inconvenience for us that they're in town and no one is in the slightest bit bothered about them only the fact that there might be a 10 minute traffic queue. Small Island syndrome. Sure, aren't we all famous???

From the other side of the pond.

We've had easy public / private key verification for over a decade. You'd think secure elections would be a priority.

You'll find democrats fighting to allow all types of fraud. Republicans fighting to limit voting opportunities.
