Don't know. I think you mentioned fining people/companies or something that hire illegals? The problem is our current President Chump hires illegals. For a long time now.

Not fining though, closing thier business down. Extreme I know, but that would nix the problem for the most part.

JB, look how many presidents we have had through out the years of illegal immigration, why hasnโ€™t this issue been brought to the fore front in 60 years????

If President Trump is in infact hiring Illegals for labor, then that would be playing the double standard bigot role.

Proves my point, as Non Essential. Paper pushers.

On the contrary - lots of private service jobs for low level clerks and โ€œpaper pushersโ€ But there are other jobs which arenโ€™t plentiful outside of the federal sector.

Working without being paid:
TSA
DHS
DEA
Customs and border protection (ironically)
Forest service firefighters
National weather service
Food inspection
Veteran hospitals

Furloughed, no pay
Dept of commerce
NASA
HUD
Forests and national parks services
IRS (good year to cheat on your taxes? But no refunds processed either.)
Dept of agriculture
National museums like the Smithsonian and other facilities that rake in tourist dollars (loss of revenue)
Most federal research facilities - research in progress may be lost or destroyed
Passport offices and record requests (some working without pay)
EPA
Small business loans and filings (some working without pay)

800,000+ people. They work, they have mortgages, car payments, utility bills, rent, etc. and they support families, Just because you had problems withsome sh*thead clerical types in the past doesnโ€™t make them insignificant.

You could probably delete 2 of those Gov departments, they are useless, and when the American people see peace, illegal immigrants removed, a nation of respect, then the engine can be restarted and Gov worker wages can be in effect again, until then, no money.

One thing I have learned, you hit someone in the pocket book, it lights fire under thier ass to do right

Thanks for list. TSA is stupid, ignorant people unemployable, soon robots will do that boring job. TSA didnt even exist until Bush made it public waste. DHS either. DEA ineffective at best. War on drugs a major waste of tax dollars. Veterans will be cared for. All the departments on the lower list are non essential. All of them. IMO.

We can disagree, I still think you are alright for a Trump hater. ๐Ÿ˜€
At least you are an entrepreneur and independent business person. I am sure you donโ€™t want to pay 70% income taxes though to support the masses with ACOโ€™s program.

Then they better get rolling requesting POTUS tax returns because heโ€™s the one being an idiot about this.

Walls are only as good as their weakest point. People can go over them, under them, around them. You can monitor and patrol every inch of it but then that becomes your primary defense, the wall becomes secondary. And as for patrolling it - ask Israel what that costs each year.

Weโ€™re not at war with Mexico. Illegal border crossings are down. Implement a more modern solution which will be less expensive. Put the money towards solving the problem with overstayers or towards fixing our failing infrastructure..

Lots of businesses make money off of them.

And that is a problem IMO , they are breaking the law, period. There really isnโ€™t any , uh , well, because that is what has been going on for decades, and that is pure corruption

I don't remember what it was but there was some program, I think during Bush that got scrapped. But it was letting people from Mexico come to the US to work and for not good wages. But they took those wages back home to Mexico. They were ok with it. But then people illegally coming from Mexico increased after they shut down the program. I think it was this, Guest Worker program - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guest_worker_program

Saw some documentary on this on Netflix that went thru it all.

Building a wall reminds me of some future sci-fi movies where you have these walls and people wondering what's on the other side. There are other ways like tech, and just some basic reform.

Guest workers are fine. They register, comply with the law and donโ€™t hop illegally over a fence to pop out anchor babies, or get welfare. They do back breaking work like picking Strawberries and Lettuce that lazy Americans would never do. If they send money home it doesnt matter.

It's been awhile since I watched that documentary but remember thinking, why not just start it up again:

"On January 7, 2004, President Bush reaffirmed his desire for guest worker program reform and laid forth plans for its implementation, known as the โ€˜Fair and Secure Immigration Reformโ€™ program."

The Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2007 was introduced by Senator Harry Reid (D- NV). It would have created a new visa class for temporary workers, allowing them to stay in the country for two years. It failed to pass; some attribute the bill's defeat to an approved amendment which would have ended the program after five years, leading to the loss of support for the bill in the business community.

more on it:

"The proposal, which was delivered in the form of a statement of principles, included, among other things, the creation of a temporary worker program for newcomers and for immigrants currently living in the U.S. without authorization. Bush explained that such reform was needed to reduce the potential national security threat of having eight million unidentified, unauthorized immigrants in the United States. He also stressed that the proposed reform would help prevent future exploitation of immigrants and human smuggling, and protect the wages of all workers."

I think weโ€™ll have to amicably agree to disagree on this. :) I believe that medical research has value for society and natural resources are important. Itโ€™s kind of a bleak mindset to only value things that can be measured in dollars and cents.

And Iโ€™ve said about a half dozen times that I donโ€™t agree with AOC on most things, but I also donโ€™t see why the big fuss. She wants attention. Ignore her and either sheโ€™ll grow up and step up, or her 15 minutes of fame will expire.

My exception is healthcare. System is badly broken and insurers and pharmaceutical companies are profiteering (not just profiting) from misfortune. Weโ€™re a superpower - we can do better to care for our own and ethically, we should. Makes no difference to me if I pay premiums to insurance companies or taxes to the government, and judging from what friends in other countries have, government controlled universal healthcare would probably be a better deal.

But I know where you stand there, so weโ€™ll agree to disagree on that too!

But this I believe is why it was a nonstarter, not for just farm workers. Not balanced enough.

There are Hotel maids who are legal immigrant permanent residents or citizens who clean hotel rooms. Same with Construction. Labor Unions would not agree too. It would be difficult and unfair to hire guest workers fairly, Businesses would take advantage of lower wages and it would depress wages of existing American maids and Concrete, Drywall and Framers, etc. The problem is that say Construction workers are illegal now, and are getting paid cash. Businesses should be fined for hiring illegals and if not enough legal workers, then guest workers allowed.

โ€œThe proposed temporary worker program would be non-sector specificโ€”agricultural workers, construction workers, and those working in hotel services, for example, would be eligible to apply for legal temporary status.โ€

The system is broken, however the Govt to me isnโ€™t going to fix it. Like a military contract, Uncle Sam should send it out to bid in pieces. Hospitals independent and co sponsored by benevolent groups like Churches. The Industrialized system and WallStreet chasing increased quarterly profits isnโ€™t right. Neither is waiting in long lines or rationing like a Canadian family told me yesterday. Drug Companies it is so complex. If malpractice was eliminated and trial lawyers booted, then prices might be more realistic. Govโ€™t could sanction and take away FDA licensing if Big Phama messes up. Look what happened to Johns Mansville mess.

We can just let the Military Health System run it all.

Fund it, expand it, rename it.

Whatever health system I grew up on, worked just fine.

Oh boy, Conservative meltdown coming shortly.

"The trans community has been under attack," said Rep. @JenniferWexton. "I wanted to show my solidarity because we are talking about my friends and family."

She must have been reading this thread.

New Rep. Jennifer Wexton applauded for displaying transgender flag outside Capitol Hill office

Anyone who attacks a person bc of their sexuality deserves a meltdown. Kudos to her for supporting the lgbtq community.
