How Taiwanese animators saw the 3rd GOP Debate
Funny. Jeb Bush really has no sense of how his words will sound. First he calls some 20-something actress "hot", and then the lame attack on Rubio. Or maybe he knew he was out, and sacrificed himself by giving Rubio a slow pitch.

IMO, one of the hardest things to watch is a debate where politicians try to crack a joke. The delivery is always terrible, almost painful in the experiencing. A comedian can say the most outlandish, brutal things and somehow pull it off as humor. A politician that tries the same line will come off as spoiled, or mean spirited, or just boring. But they keep trying, probably because a poll somewhere suggested they needed to look more human to the little people.

Muslim inmates in many of Britainโ€™s high security prisons are forcing non-Muslims to pay a โ€œprotectionโ€ tax if they refuse to convert to Islam in jail.

I just can't get over how the prisoners are running the prisons in the US, and the UK apparently. That's why it really bothers me when Americans gloat that some convicted criminal will end up "as Bubba's bitch." If we are going to sentence people to anal rape and beatings, let's make it officially part of the sentence rather than letting convicted thugs do all the dirty work.

There's no reason in the world this stuff should be going on in a prison in any developed country. It would be pretty hard to force someone to convert or pay if they were locked in isolation cells. The problem would be solved.

Fidel Castro had an interesting idea about 35 years ago when he opened prison doors and mental health facilities and allowed 125.000 of these criminals and loonies to go on boats to Florida. Only sometime later did the US discover that they were welcoming boat loads of undesirables.

The UK should do a "Fidel" and send all that scum to Syria or Iraq

It's simply not feasible to lock up all inmates in separate isolation cells. Not only would it be expensive beyond reason, it would also have other unwanted consequences ranging from inmates that go nuts from isolation to logistical nightmares like having to deliver meals to individual cells and such.

Make rape and beatings part of the sentencing, eh?

This is another example of an unbalanced Breitbart article that combines lots of opinions and statements that are supposedly factual but contain no support or evidence for the claims.

Statements like, โ€œPeople at times are bullied and intimidated and harassed into becoming a Muslim and, if they donโ€™t, are attacked,โ€ he told The Sunday Times" mean nothing; they are just empty statements without some sort of empirical evidence that can be corroborated.

How about if the same story comes from "The Times"?

You seem to think that Breitbart invents stories!

No, I think Brietbart simply writes stuff that doesn't include factual proof.
And how would you know that?
The same story was on The Times. Is that more believable because it's "the times"?

Do prisoners carry cash? lol I just assumed they have credit at the prison store

The Time is a fairly right wing paper. Any reports in anywhere else?
Here's a quote from the original report where 50% of some wings are muslim:

โ€œThere were some intimidating โ€˜heavy playersโ€™ among the Muslim population, who appeared to be orchestrating prison power dynamics rather than propagating or following the faith. Many physically powerful prisoners โ€˜reestablished their outside identitiesโ€™ as leaders in the prison and used their (newly acquired) faith status as a tool for establishing influence.โ€

Let me help you out:

Rhetorical device
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In rhetoric, a rhetorical device or resource of language is a technique that an author or speaker uses to convey to the listener or reader a meaning with the goal of persuading him or her towards considering a topic from a different perspective, using sentences designed to encourage or provoke a rational argument from an emotional display of a given perspective or action. Note that although rhetorical devices may be used to evoke an emotional response in the audience, this is not their primary purpose.

....Irony and metaphor
Two common rhetorical devices are irony and metaphor.

The use of irony in rhetoric is primarily to convey to the audience an incongruity that is often used as a tool of humor in order to deprecate or ridicule an idea or course of action.

You're welcome.

Guess this means you didn't recognize "Make rape and beatings part of the sentencing, eh?" as a rhetorical device.

I see a young Afghan woman was stoned to death for "adultery" by a gathering of '"Taliban, local religious leaders and armed warlords.'" There is no excuse for this kind of barbarism. Makes me sick.

Because the way you used it wasn't a rhetorical device, it was a gotcha. A quote taken out of context to discredit a person making an argument and to distract from the main point of the argument. Which is pretty much how political discussions go these days in the US. Nothing of substance is seriously discussed, it's all "he said this" and "she said that."
