I agree with you. The American higher education system is a racket. It is dragging down the economy overall by wasting human capital for 4+ years of every adult lifetime and miring people in debt.

In my case, I was lucky enough to get an engineering degree without incurring any college debt. But that isn't the typical situation.

Ideally, people would enter the work force at the age of 16. Then, as necessary for professional development or as desired for personal reasons, we could go back to school as adults on a part-time basis while continuing to work at least part time.
"Ideally"? Would like to see a plan that somehow found millions of new jobs every year for 16 year olds with no experience.

That's the way the world worked for thousands of years. Right up until the end of the 20th century. "16 year olds with no experience" always used to enter the work force and gain experience that way. This notion that everybody ought to go to college between the age of 18 and 22 is an historical aberration.

Verbster, I have some Breaking News for you about the Palin Family Brawl. This drawing was found near the scene of the crime, by one of my trusted sources. Sarah is on the top right side... flying into scene

I'm glad I found this before CNN, otherwise it would have been completely adulterated. Now you can show it to the Alaskan blogger who talked about it first, now that we have the smoking gun

Thousands of years? You're comparing 16 year old employment in the States today to 16 year old employment back in Roman times when people were lucky to live until age 16. And saying that's the way it was right up until the end of the 20th century (1999) is bit absurd. I'll assume you meant the 19th century, as up until 1899 makes a little sense. But even to compare now to 125 years ago is not defensible. Besides a complete industrial and technological employment revolution, the population increase alone (75 million to 330 million) changes everything.

Who said "everybody" ought to go to college from 18-22, anyway?

Las Vegas School District Proposes Masturbation Coursework For Kindergartners

http://dailycaller.com/2014/09/25/l...s-masturbation-coursework-for-kindergartners/

Only Liberal Loonies and perverts could ever come up with these ideas.

Ahhhh, but wait, it's probably good for the kids to have an open mind, starting at a really young age.

By next year they will probably start teaching 5 year old's to do blo# jobs. Gotta keep them kids open minded... right?

It's difficult to comment on this without seeing the survey/document at the core of things. Kindergarteners are trying to learn their A-B-C's, and how to stand in line quietly, and how to get along with other kids. That's the kind of "coursework"
they are capable of. I don't think anyone in their right mind would try to add sexuality education into kindergarten curriculum.

British aid worker Alan Henning beheaded by ISIS brute 'Jihadi John'... who threatens to kill US war veteran next

Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...ideo-released-terror-group.html#ixzz3F3Gdy3pr

These bastards are really mocking the West. I don't want to hear another bleeding heart liberal journalist or President or Prime Minister trying to convince us that this is not Islam.

If Muslims are against this then let them send troops into ISIS controlled areas and and destroy this evil, but we won't see this

ISIS is a decentral movement, you can not fight it by using top down methods, ie bombing.
Lets ask Hillary who ISIS bought the hostages from.

I agree. Air strikes will never be enough. Must have boots on the ground. So I propose: Let the US and the West drop bombs from the air and let the Arabs put their troops on the ground.... for a change.

In the meantime, in Honk Kong...

LOL you mean all the other rates that the goverment collects and uses? Is that "real world"? Yes those rates went down but they are not at 5,9%. Or you mean the way the goverment used to calculate the unemployement how is that not "real world"? Or do you mean all the people that took part in a CNN poll that think the way it is calulated does not reflect reality on the ground, I guess all of them are not in the "real world" either.

U-6 the real word stat is at 11.8% yes it is down, but it is no where near 5.8%

"U-6 Total unemployed, plus all persons marginally attached to the labor force, plus total employed part time for economic reasons, as a percent of the civilian labor force plus all persons marginally attached to the labor force - NOTE: Persons marginally attached to the labor force are those who currently are neither working nor looking for work but indicate that they want and are available for a job and have looked for work sometime in the past 12 months. Discouraged workers, a subset of the marginally attached, have given a job-market related reason for not currently looking for work. Persons employed part time for economic reasons are those who want and are available for full-time work but have had to settle for a part-time schedule. Updated population controls are introduced annually with the release of January data."

Here is a better overall picture and not just the lowest rate:
http://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.t15.htm
But Im sure someone will claim this is not "real world" or some kind of conspiracy.

I could never understand how "apparently" intelligent people can believe in all the numbers the Government spits out, especially the unemployment numbers. Every bloody Government in the world manipulates unemployment (and other) numbers to make them look good so that they can stay in power.

It seems that Liberals are more gullible to being brainwashed since 90% of the Main Stream Media belongs to the Liberal Loonies.

The number used for the unemployment rate is calculated the same as it has been for decades. Whether anyone believes it is accurate is a moot point. As long as it's the same number, calculated the same way, it's the standard used.

it's like using the Dow Jones index to measure the stock market. There may be other ways to measure performance, but as long as the Dow is used, that's the accepted measurement.

If the Dow Jones was under Government control it would also be manipulated.

From a US government website (bls.gov):
"The government conducts a monthly survey called the Current Population Survey (CPS) to measure the extent of unemployment in the country. ...In 1942, the U.S. Census Bureau took over responsibility for the CPS. The survey has been expanded and modified several times since then."

If you mention this you are not part of the "real world" if you quote what the goverment tells you , you are.

Expanded and modified, but otherwise exactly the same:)

Yeah, I read that, too. You forgot to mention the only example they gave: "In 1994, for instance, the CPS underwent a major redesign in order to computerize the interview process as well as to obtain more comprehensive and relevant information." Being able to input survey info into a database seems like a good thing to me. No idea about the extra info, but assume it would be background info to give more specifics about the currently employed/unemployed.

Edit: Here are the 1994 changes - http://www.bls.gov/cps/revisions1994.pdf

I see the US Supreme Court has refused to hear the appeals banning gay marriages, which means gay marriage is now legal in several states and will be in many more soon.

Meaning that the democratic vote means shit as far as the Courts are concerned. Why bother to vote when the Courts then decide to go against the popular vote.
