Rather vote for the far right, Tea Party candidate that has no chance of winning.

Here's the thing. History is filled with examples of candidates who had no chance of winning at one point, and yet a couple years later win in a landslide.

Things often change quickly, usually when people get a rude dose of reality.

If the Republicans offer compromise candidates who are basically offering a lite version of what the Democrats offer, they may or may not win an election. They will certainly kill their brand though.

Sometimes, rather than chasing voters and pandering to them, it's wiser to take a stand and wait for the voters to come to you.

Aside from the practical reasons for this, there is such a thing as maintaining principles. When people suddenly do want a change, and when all the candidates start promising that change, I would think voters would go with the candidate that held that position before it became popular.

Probably overestimating the average voter's intelligence here, but I'd rather be an optimist and imagine there is light at the end of the tunnel:)

Nobody is going over to the far right, where they stand on most social issues. Even more conservative than most Republicans. These are the people that love Bachmann, Palin and Beck.

Here's a prime example of two Liberal snakes who speak with forked tongue, basically defending Bill Maher, who described Sarah Palin's special needs child, Trig as "Retarded"

This is not the first time that very distinguished Liberal comedians have insulted Palin's Kids. But to have those two cows from "The View" defending such a low down act is revolting to say the least, but I'm sure Liberals will just shrug it off as "no big deal there".

Were they agreeing with his choice of words, or were they defending his right to speak freely? Big difference. While I despise that you also call people names all the time, I'd also defend your right to say them, as you did, calling the two women "cows."

Why are you outraged, anyway? Weren't you the one who said I should just laugh off racist comments...and not get my feathers ruffled about this kind of stuff? Are you, as a name-caller, drawing the line at free speech name-calling when it comes to kids but not racism?

BTW-Maher isn't distinguished, he's a comedian. And although most comedians are left leaning (think about why), Maher is a large part libertarian: He owns guns, wants to privatize Social Security, is in favor of racial profiling at airports and is for the death penalty, to name a few things. He also believes in free speech, helpful, harmful or otherwise. You don't?

I've heard, on a number of occasions Maher, Letterman and others insulting Palins kids. It's freedom of speech so they can do as they please, but when you mock someone's special needs child, then you are crossing a line.

Then when you have those two cows; Whoopi and Barbara basically defending Maher, that's crossing another line. The audience applauding is another line being crossed.

When you cross so many lines you put yourself open to verbal abuse. Instead of "cows" I was actually gonna use another term, one that Maher uses frequently to describe Palin, but that would have been censored or banned here so I was more diplomatic by only referring to those two $#%&?, as cows.

Now lets just imagine for a minute, Obama's daughters being mocked or insulted by any of these comedians or others. Do you think those two cows would have made those excuses for them having freedom of speech.

They would have been forced to resign from "The View" immediately and there would be outrage for the next 10-20 years, and rightfully so.

Double standards and hypocrisy is what it's called and Liberals are specialists in that area.

I've also been called a lot of names here due to my political and religious views, including various "Dislikes", which correct me if I'm wrong, you also gave me. You lefties, who dominate in numbers here at Namepros, probably thought I would cave in and kiss your asses. Wrong. Because I'm not politically correct, I don't kiss anyone's ass

This comparison is not correct You are talking about name-calling a normal Kid. I was talking about mocking and referring to her Down Syndrome child as a "Retard" Big difference. Yes you and others sometimes make such a big deal out of nothing in terms of racism. Everything is racism. Someday if a white male (it's always the white male's fault) looks at a black dude it will be called racism. You are trying to mix apples and oranges in this comparison and it ain't gonna work.

On a side note, just saw some images of your Alaska on our local news, showing that you are going through a heat wave in some parts. Now I'm one up on Sarah. Now I can even see Alaska from my lounge while watching the news. Bet you can't say the same about Madeira

It's your opinion that "lines" were crossed, and your opinion on what where those lines may be drawn. To turn around and employ the same name-calling tactics against the women who defended freedom of speech is a bit hypocritical, at best. I've heard of no TV personalities outside of Maher call Trig names. They've expressed confusion at names like "Trig," but that's about it. I've heard them make fun of what's going on with her other adult kids, though, Bristle, in particular. Despite what you think, they have chosen to be public figures open to the good and bad that goes along with it.

I don't see you calling Maher names. Have you written to him? Why not ask to be on his show or make your point known? Hell, write him a scathing page where all you do is call him the worst names you can think of. Get it off your chest and move on.

When you cross so many lines you put yourself open to verbal abuse. Instead of "cows" I was actually gonna use another term, one that Maher uses frequently to describe Palin, but that would have been censored or banned here so I was more diplomatic by only referring to those two $#%&?, as cows.
Why does it make you feel better to call anyone names at all? Why is showing posters of Obama dressed as a Nazi okay?

Now lets just imagine for a minute, Obama's daughters being mocked or insulted by any of these comedians or others. Do you think those two cows would have made those excuses for them having freedom of speech.

I don't know, and neither do you. Besides, you should know it's more complicate than that. It's not morality at stake, it's the networks funding by advertising that's what is important to them. If advertisers pull their support, the show gets canceled. Get all of the conservatives to complain, if you don't like something. Don't resort to calling them names because they were defending the right of someone to call someone a name.

Double standards and hypocrisy is what it's called and Liberals are specialists in that area.

Like the double standards you are using to toss away my beliefs about what is racism and what's crossing a line there, yet expect all of us to respect your line on name calling although you do it all the time. And like lumping all liberals together and calling them all hypocrites?

I've also been called a lot of names here due to my political and religious views, including various "Dislikes", which correct me if I'm wrong, you also gave me. You lefties, who dominate in numbers here at Namepros, probably thought I would cave in and kiss your asses. Wrong. Because I'm not politically correct, I don't kiss anyone's ass
I honestly don' recall disliking a post from you. I took a quick look and didn't see one. But it doesn't matter. I've received dislikes, too. I'm okay with that, especially if the person posts why. It lets me learn.

The last thing I want is you kissing my ass.

This comparison is not correct You are talking about name-calling a normal Kid. I was talking about mocking and referring to her Down Syndrome child as a "Retard" Big difference. Well, there are the double standards again: You think what I consider a big deal is merely making a โ€œbig deal out of nothing in terms of racism.โ€ You donโ€™t respect my opinion on racism, yet you expect me to respect yours on the โ€œcowsโ€ who crossed a line defending freedom of speech.

Out of curiosity, why so you say "white male" twice to describe whites, but use "black dude" to describe blacks?

On a side note, just saw some images of your Alaska on our local news, showing that you are going through a heat wave in some parts. Now I'm one up on Sarah. Now I can even see Alaska from my lounge while watching the news. Bet you can't say the same about Madeira [/QUOTE]

If you call setting statewide records days in a row for temperatures higher than ever recorded, then, yes, itโ€™s a heat wave.

I have looked up Madeira. It looks like a very nice place. In fact, my wife and I are thinking about visiting.

I know you have a problem with 'context', but... Bill Maher's show is called "POLITICALLY INCORRECT';

Do you even get the double standard and hypocrisy of excusing yourself for insulting and calling others names while you bitch-twist what Bill Maher said as "crossing the line?

Of course you don't, your a religious conservative.

That was interesting., Basically 1 out of 3 Republicans change their principles depending on which party has the presidency. Sounds bad, but the Democrats are even worse, with half of them changing their principles depending on which party is in charge. That's one explanation. And that's a positive spin, considering that the extent of NSA's spying was not so broad or well known in 2006.

Those who view NSA surveillance as acceptable
Republicans 2006
Acceptable 75% Unacceptable 24%
Democrats 2006
Acceptable 37% Unacceptable 61%

Republicans June 2013
Acceptable 52% Unacceptable 47%
Republicans June 2013
Acceptable 64% Unacceptable 34%

Rather disheartening to see, that even when politics would support being against it, a majority of Republicans (the "small government" party) still find it acceptable for the government to have access to every electronic conversation you've ever had.

"Republicans (the "small government" party)"

They're not the small government party, well only if you're talking about regulation, environment, stuff like that. When it comes to personal freedom, they're the Big Government Party. What you can do with your body, who you can marry, what you can smoke, what toys you can use in the bedroom etc. All up in your business.

Plus Republicans have always been more Pro-Military/Defense. So, that's why they don't have a problem with it.

Markets took a big hit yesterday and today. Could we be seeing some more selling off tomorrow and monday? Seems like every time Bernanke suggests that the FED presses are gonna stop printing money the markets get really nervous... but sooner or later he's gonna have to stop QE.

Rick Santelli is my favorite when it comes to rants about Ben Bernanke and the economy. Here he is all fired up, yesterday:

What changed his tune? Someone in the NSA twisting his arm or did he just wimp out like he has on other issues?

Maybe those democrats think they still have the 2008 Obama, not realizing it was swapped out for the new, un-improved, 2013 version.

For those wondering why Snowden didnt go through "official channels" with his concerns, there's this:

While I'm on my rant of the week, here's how overreaching "homeland security" laws can be abused:

Personally I think Snowden and before him Wikileaks have done us all a good service by exposing all the wickedness, excesses and corruption by the US and other Governments.

It's never too late to teach Big Governments, Big Corporations, Big Banks, Wall Street and Politicians, who should be holding the power. Lets all learn how Iceland did it and follow their lead, otherwise we will all become slaves of the above mentioned culprits.

6 years, video was from 2007. Candidate vs. President. Big difference when you've been in the White House for 4 years as President vs. just being a candidate. I'm not sure how the clearance levels work exactly but I think it would be higher as President. On top of that, more meetings, things change over time etc. So I expect views to change right along with that. And it's been shown that some of this has helped stopped, directly or indirectly some terrorist attacks. That's a good thing. Or course I don't want the government in any of my business like most people but I understand this kind of thing is nothing new and has helped situations.

That's the purpose of the NSA

"The National Security Agency (NSA) is a cryptologic intelligence agency of the United States Department of Defense responsible for the collection and analysis of foreign communications and foreign signals intelligence, as well as protecting U.S. government communications and information systems, which involves information security and cryptanalysis/cryptography."
