Fine. But the US USED to be a champion of human rights in that we WERE a country who would at least SPEAK OUT against an injustice like this - not just shrug and turn our backs. Guy was trying to get paperwork to marry his fiancee.
Caring isn't a zero sum game. Speaking out against human rights violations doesn't cost you any of your precious tax dollars.
You leave the US to knowingly travel into a risky and bad situation isn’t the brightest decision, If in fact the investigation into SA is determined to be responsible for that, hey I agree its horrible. But it isnt the US that should do anything.
Just like Crimea, I know everybody here just about disagrees with me about what happened and thinks Putin is the worst, but if you look pragmatically at it objectively geopolitically, it makes sense. He needs Naval access to Mediterranean. Oops, Ukraine should have had a treaty or agreement like US foreign bases, like the base in Cuba.
But I can see several million dollars in US tax resources paid in investigations and foreign intelligence gathering ( usually bribes in cash) yet an average Joe idiot (those first hand references I made were all knuckleheads also who got into trouble and had only my brief 30 seconds of sympathy), not a taxpayers dime spent and all nobdies WERE US citizens, but because this green card guy was well known so now, its some big deal.

Some American young person decided to commit adultery with a citizen of SA. So, he was sentenced to a public beheading and the author his “friend” was there to witness. Its a different culture.
