Hi,

I am wondering if you guys could help me with a project in which i have in mind. I have been working very hard on a directory, paidpaid.info, and i really want to kill DMOZ, because it sucks. I have already joined www.dmozsucks.org, and i have already posted on the forums asking for suggestions and ideas there.

I am unsure on how i am going to do this, and to keep it up, but my target by the end of the month is 100links/day, which i think is easy, but only if i can advertise it. Marketing such a project and idea is very hard, and i have already tryed my hardest single handedly, and i am getting around 30-60 links a day as it as.

Any DMOZ haters here willing to help me?

Thanks in advanced.

Rob

Hi,

Thanks for the link, but i really want or maybe even need this to be a community project. It is harder because i have around 5,000 other sites which equal quality which is competeing against me.

I have heard rumours of a wiki-style open sourced directory project were in the works whereby users could edit / add links freely. No Moderators (well, the same as wikipedia editors I mean instead of DMOZ editors).

It'd never get indexed in search engines surely?

From personal experience, i don't personally like the idea that people can add links by themselves, because i fear people advertising Viagra. If you saw my admin control panel on my blog, every day i am deleteing between 2-10 bad blog posts, which advertise sex drugs, so i dont really want that to happen. Wikipedia doesn't have such a problem, because it is ran in a completely different context.

I have also released the previously hidden reason for the site to be created, and although it isn't a positive reason, i hope for something positive to come out of this.

I am actually very popular on google, because i have 700+ pages indexed.

As you can see, i have revamped the layout, added featured links (which will pay for hosting upgrades when needed) and other stuff, including pages.

What kind of help, per se, do you need? Do you want people to submit sites; people to go through links and remove offensive ones, etc.?

I am handling all the new links very well, because i have modded my admin panel which allows me to verify 200 at a time. Thanks for the offer, but i really want more links submitted, and i am currently maxing out all of my free advertising options already.

Thanks,

Rob

You can have cheap advertising from me :hehe:

I'll submit a few links, even if I don't own the site, just because you asked :kickass:

Shame about Dmoz, it used to be the SEOs 'back door' into some of the hard to get listed in search engines. It was fine until some unscrupulous SEOs realised that becoming an editor at Dmoz meant that they could easily place their customers sites (and their own) at the top of each catagory, and move any rival companies down to the bottom the list.

Good luck with your project, try not to make any of the same mistakes Dmoz did.
