Storms a’Brewing
There is a dark cloud hanging over a lot of folks these days. The economy in the tank, we have rising unemployment and there is a dearth of investment dollars out there to keep many small businesses afloat. This sentiment has reached the domain name industry and the prospects for hand regging in particular. This is not a new development, it has been building for years. The advent of new systems, tools, and software is taking the fun out of hand registering names. The whole process is too complicated and futile. There are many domainers out there who wouldn’t even consider looking at an available domain list because they are convinced it is more trouble that it’s worth.

The Thrill Of the Chase
I disagree. It is not getting more complicated; It is just getting more competitive! As more people enter the market, the tougher it is to find that true gem at a bargain price. The influx of all the tools that have evolved is a testament to that. They are designed to give you and edge over others looking for the same thing. Besides there are tools and sites out there that do a lot of the heavy lifting for you.

Huge Opportunities
Now I am biased. I am addicted to hand registering domains as many who know me can attest. It doesn’t matter if it is a generic, keyword based, niche, adult, brandable; I love them all. We are just looking for opportunities. Where else can you buy the rights virtual real estate with the potential to house a multi-million (Billion) dollar enterprise for under $10 a year?

In reality, my addiction has lead me to register more duds than diamonds, but hey, isn't that part of the fun? Like any true addict, I take regular steps to curb my registrations but I quickly fall of the wagon. So in closing, as i say Happy Hunting, I really mean it. Cheers!

Time will tell as the internet grows. But I think the future is going to be great.

Not a typical occurence. So picked it up and it fit my niche...

Hand Reg or Bust....who wants a T-shirt?

Ahh, the art of the hand-reg. I LOVE hand-regging domains. To do it profitably takes skill, experience and creativity, but it's accessible to anyone.

Backorders have their place, but I rather make a dentist appt. than get in a bidding war with other domainers.

I hand-regged 10 dot coms last week (strong commercial keyword domains, between 2-4 words, with attractive "exact match" search volume) that I was able to quickly flip for a tidy ROI.

Examples:

Tandem/Baby/Stroller
Stroller/For/Twins
Executive/Business/School
Facial/Table

I could have built a prospect list and pursued end-users for a higher $$$ return, but that wasn't my goal with these names.

If you keep your eyes open and your ears tuned, opportunities exist everywhere...and more are created daily.

I actually get nervous if I don't hand register a few domains per week. I am not working hard enough...reading enough...researching enough.

I look hand registering domains as long-term goals and investments and understand it may take 5+ years or more to reach full potential...I actually expect that when I register a name.

But that adds to my nice mix of names for: parking, development, end-user sales, affiliate marketing and futures. Monies coming from different avenues.

I agree hand-reg is awesome.
We are modern gold hunters. It's much better when you find gold at the sand from buying it from the store. However as some already mentioned that doesn't mean that the purity of the gold will be good

It certainly worth the try and the time that most of us spend with them.
Hand-reg is one of the factors that makes domaining pure fun.
