Hi

For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

With all somewhat "modern" cellphone you can add a .tel webadress in the contact info. Go to the webbadress and click the phone number to call.

This is somewhat slower than it has to be since it opens the whole webbbrowser.

Though there are free apps for calling/managing .tels without opening a browser on blackberry, Iphone and android.

One would imagine that even though slowest thinkers amongst the anti-tel crowd would be able to figure this out. Running and using a TEL is pretty simple. Just point and click.

The people talking about the TEL drops are forgetting that the serious TEL owners' names don't expire until 2012 (when the world ends). The TELs that are dropping now are those owned by the domain squatters. Since TEL isn't for squatters, that's a good thing. Let them drop. New TLDs don't really need people holding domain names for ransom.

By the way, I-would-have-bought-a-com-for-10-million-dollars-but-all-I-could-afford-was-this-stupid-10-dollar.tel is available (in all TLDs) if there are any squatters watching this thread. Hurry before it is too late.

No offense, but I find it ironic that you're referring to people who've invested in .tel at launch and decided that their investments were no longer worthwhile as "domain squatters".

Whereas, you saw a need to differentiate them with the 'serious TEL owners' (people who continue holding on to their .tel?) who aren't looking to resell their domains one day and holding them on purely for development indefinitely?

If it makes an difference, I've not register or bought a single .tel domain, thought it did cross my mind more than once.

Cheers! :imho:

PS: You might want to double check your "LAWYERS IN THE USA" link in your sig. :gl:

It is sad that someone actually believed that.

I'm sure that there are people taking those statements seriously. When people want to believe they are blind to the facts. Dรฉjร  vu all over again.

Bye bye .tel sleep well...

The difference really is this.

Squatters: Buy domains for the sole purpose of reselling them without any plan for developing them. At best, they park them somewhere. In the case of TEL, these people are too lazy to add any contact to increase the value of the property. Squatters are usually the ones that buy into the new TLD hype, lose tons of money and then hang around the new TLD forums bitching about how all new TLDs suck. This thread is full of people who had bad experiences with other TLDs. Instead of working harder, they hang around here bitching. It is almost as if they think that posting in the forum is real work or something. Posting is entertainment.

Domainers: Buy domains and work on improving the value. They do this by development and promotion. Domainers don't bother complaining, because they are too busy working.

I definitely did not mean that everyone who bought domains in pre-release are more serious than those who registered during the general release. Just look at newyork, texas or california (dot) tel. These companies are clueless. Putting anything there would make the domain more valuable. Instead, they just wait and squat.

IMHO, domains are property. If a person buys a house speculatively in a certain city and restores it, that investor will sell the property for a higher value.

If a person buys a house and lets it sit there without doing anything to it (cut the grass for example), they are going to lose all of their money.

If the latter person, then turns around and says that real estate in that city sucks, why would anyone believe them?

The same goes with cyber property. If you don't work with it, it is going to fail.

:imho:

Thanks for letting me know about the failed link. :)

I do not think that those people who is whining here dislike .tel ,if they dislike it,why come here? only to strike telnic for fun? no ,perhaps they hasitate and not sure dot tel's future ,they constantely saying tel is bad ,tel is bad ,the purpose only need people saying you are wrong ,then they can sleep like a kitten, why not trust yourself, if you can give some good advise ,it will be better. baby is no use for they can not saying ,runing, working, but when it be adult ,it is no use too?

Its way to early to count out .tel.

Still most people on earth don't know it excists.

It took people years to get into internet!
People did not get what the internet was good for even around 2000.

To count out .tel now is weird since you dont know what will happen in the future.

Look at it this way.
.Tel is still a child its just one year.
What features will .tel have in 5 years?

Sure Coca-Cola do not use their .tel,

BUT they will never drop it! It cost them nothing to keep it.

And what happens if they or some other big company decide to start using it in an ad or a TV show using it for voting?
Or bank etc using it for service?

Just a single event like that can make .tel take off.

Sure right now its not a safe investment, but its one that can payoff big in the future 4-5 years. Or not...Its up to you.

Still I would regret very much not having spent a few dollars on it early if it takes off.
Much more than I will would, having spent those few dollars even if it does not take off.

If you are afraid of being an early adopter you will miss the big oportunities.

One problem (not with .tel in particular) is that many newbies are expecting a quick return on their regs, they are not prepared to renew and keep for say, 5 years. So when renewal comes due, they have no money left and drop their names. Now there is no guarantee that those domains will appreciate over time. Actually the opposite can happen (the extension falling into oblivion). See what happened with .mobi, lots of hype at the beginning, some good sales then silence.

Hi. This is my first post in this thread, even I have read it since its creation moment. I got several .tel domains in March 2009 and I have added content to some of them.

Itยดs surprising how confident some of the members are about .tel failure, as well as some others are just expecting revalorisation without adding content in the domains.

In my opinion, success depend on how good and how many content we add in our .tel domains. If most of us park them without adding any links, just waiting for the day that some TV shows start to use them, I think we are wasting time.

We have to add links and content, making directories, creating contact pages or whatever. Thatยดs the only way that search engines will consider them. Empty sites are worthless. And my friends, I can assure that .tel domains are good for SEO, if we plan good folder
estructure, links and keywords.

Of course, I dont think anyoneยดs capable to get millionaire with .tel domaines, but depending on the domaing, itยดs perfecly possible to get 10-20-30-40 bucks a month. ยฟDoes it look like a failure?. Not, in my opinion, specially when you dont need to know about linux, php, css, mysql, hosting, joomla or wordpress. Itยดs just adding urls and keywords.

Iยดm talking from experience, not teorizing, so itยดs fun reading this forum while iยดm getting up to 700 visits a day in some of my domain, and getting clicks in adsense everyday.

Partners, work in you .tel domains and earn some bucks, that will help to increase the value of the extension.

Thakns and excuse for my English.

A refreshing sensible post from someone who has looked from the outside of this thread for sometime and has simply posted what he has done-I am sure many of the guys/gals here would be interested to know with what .tel's you are having the success for simply if you are actually making money with them then the objective has been achieved.

I am skeptical of your statements. 700 visitors a day to a .tel through organic SE traffic seems highly unlikely to me.

Everyoneยดs free to believe or not. Maybe we all should try to work in the domains to get that numbers. Anyway, Iยดm not interested about making my domains public. What I can show you is a picture, a 1 (random) month log of one of my domains. Iยดs not the most successfull of them but I think itยดs enough to show you that Iยดm not lying.
