Hi

For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

Galel,

Do Search again next time for

" New Marine Parts "

Search rate: 0 search per month.

Is there any competitive term (or something that even has a search rate) that the .tel ranks high in?

Since there is no real content possible on .TEL I highly doubt it is possible to rank well for competitive terms. If anyone has any examples I would like to see them as well.

The term is taken in .COM only and has only 140 broad searches a month on Google. The phrase and exact searches show "Not enough data".

This is not exactly a competitive term.

Brad

My thoughts exactly!

Show me a competitive term that ranks and I'll be impressed.

It's easy to rank high on a term that is searched 100 times a month!

I will auction some nice dot.tel names on BIDO soon. This should provide a clue for the current market value of dot.tel even if BIDO is not representative for the whole domaining scene of course.

The positive sign: I had the five votes to place an auction within a few hours to days. Good Domains in other extensions are still waiting for their first or second vote.

Just curious!

it's sad to see why you all can't grasp the .tel technology but i guess time will tell who is in lead

To me if there's atleast 5 advertisers in the sponsored columns when doing a search, then its atleast worth the money they're paying for, that my .Tel can sit at the top organic spot of that search.

But here's the spot people may be missing out as well and its the Google maps. If you've got a business then why not place it on Google maps along with your .Tel

 there is no such thing as .TEL "technology" !

.TEL "sites" are nothing but links. Since there's no content, sites won't rank well in search engines, that's a FACT.

Unless I see a .TEL "site" that ranks well on a term that is actually searched on a monthly basis, your arguments are moot.

I can make a .TEL rank #1 on the term "poo poo caca monkey flinger" because it's probably never searched.

Here's a dot TEL that everyone should look at...

watershed.tel

...
it is updated daily, check the 'What's On'
if only all local theaters, clubs , restaurants could do something like that... simple site with no extra Krap (scripts from ads,etc...that bloat or clutter the site) the links are easy to find and read ...

Ranking has nothing to do with the number of searches but with the number(and quality) of competitors,
but I agree, if no one searches for ''poo poo caca monkey flinger'' there are probably not many
websites about the theme "poo poo caca monkey flinger"

I think everyone here grasps what .tel is.

If AOL profiles from 1995 would have had their own domain name and an API, there is your .tel.

If this open phone book concept gains any momentum, the likes of Facebook can collect the same info from their base and release an API. In just a matter of days they would probably have more listings than .tel. And since so many social sites could hypotehtically do this today, why haven't they?

Could it be that there is no market for an open phone book and that the market exists only in selling a few hundred reg fee domains per day to people who thought it looked kinda cool but ultimately won't really use it?

Does British try to interference the management of telnic?

Anyone see this news?

We, the undersigned international user community of the .tel extension managed by Telnic Limited, are opposed to any interference by the British government into the management of this Registry Operator. The management of this company does not fall under the jurisdiction of any one country’s government, as this top-level domain is already governed by a globally recognized and highly respected institution - ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. We hope that the announced measures concerning .tel will be abolished in view of our rightful interests and the global nature of this non-country specific top-level domain name.

Reference: twitition - No interference by the British government into the management of Telnic

As usual, not hard to rank for expressions that have zero search volume.
You miss the point. I suppose that is not your fault since you are focused on comparing TEL to COM. I have fontanacigarettes.com. It doesn't show up in the top 10 serps even though I have put more effort into that site. Yet, the TEL site does even though I have ignored it entirely during the last six months. As for search volume, who cares? All the business we do is based on long tail search theory. We are focused on local searches with results of less than 100 per month. Our competitors in this area are sites like citysearch, superpages, tobacco.org and the many local geo sites and directories. Since a low price click provided by superpages can cost $0.25. It is more affordable to use your own TEL than somebody else's paid-to-be-included directory.

It's not me that brought the issue of search volume. But some domainers don't know the difference between raw number of results in google and search volume. So they purchase domains based upon inaccurate figures.

It is more affordable to use your own TEL than somebody else's paid-to-be-included directory.
Who pays for directory inclusion ?

If there is no traffic, it's like advertising in the middle of the Mars desert anyway.

Brad

the initial dot tel had Zero room for content. at least Telnic has expanded the parameters a bit so that we have a small chance of adding a little bit of content.

if i can find you an example i will, but most tels are just being "semi parked".imho

The ultimate question is, has anyone made a dime of revenue off a .tel yet?

I have invested in some .tel, but honestly have not had time to do much or anything with them due to too many other current projects and goals. i guess i am taking a back seat and waiting for someone else to prove the model

but really, all the talk of seo, traffic, etc is moot unless it can be monetized. so the real question, to me is, who has so far made some revenue from .tel? anyone? and if so can you share what you've done? thanks
