Hi

For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

Correction: Most consumers don't care how to control DNS, but webmasters like to control DNS so they can make website. Website good, early 1990's template bad.

Microguy, thanks for the laugh. It's done in style. :D

I mean, giving up Joomla for "pile up" listings, that's quite the future there. Retro-programming, I'd better dig out my old ZX Spectrum and start working on some code that fits into the space of a DNS record.

We need huge software to support domain. Then version1.0......1.5.13.....1.6.
To public, web information now not scarcity,I t' s too colorful, puzzle everybody. Why not simplify?Just for the supplement of internet, not .one .two .three......

liming, why not use a regular .com or .cn (I hear they are cheap to register) and when you create a web site - there are free tools for that - just don't add graphics or colors. I'm fond of minimalism; I'm not fond of restrictions.

I have a lot of .com .cn and some complex websites.I try several kinds of CMS and BBS,SNS,YP software. Boring,no fresh feeling.Too much garbage and repeat information I feel sorry to everybody.
People waste too much time puzzled by the colorful webpage.

Are we still stuck on the bloody html template page that is merely used to display the records... Come on now. Lets talk about the applications that have been utilizing .tel and the ones that could benefit from using it in the future.

Try and get unhinged from this constant talk about the simplistic template page and get to the real potiential.

I respect your choices. Like I said, if you want to drop Joomla and web sites for "pile up" stuff on .tel domains, then you're a great customer of TelNic.

You're not dealing in facts.

From what I can gather, you have two issues; 1) the Address record is fixed, 2) you don't like the TelProxy design. I've responded to both, but you're either incapable of comprehending my answers or like to pretend you never heard them, running these same arguments through the mill over and over again for %#- n giggles.

The End.

Witticisms are of no use when you cannot deliver a statement.

Can you change the DNS to host, park, develop a .tel domain?

No.

The End of .tel

Chader, I *want* access to that "bloody html template". Can I have it, please? I *want* to be able to display the DNS records TelNic-style, having "pile up" information e.g. links to Chinese menu items a-la-carte, OR to display regular web content by having full control of the DNS.

Release the DNS, TelNic.

Actually, TelNic needs to pay me to fix their flawed business model.

@Acroplex
We have been over this before.. if that is your true desire.. go get a .com and try it. problem solved...
Heck you might even be ahead of the game for when other domains start to catch on to what .tel has in regards to the additional records.

Your logic is akin to this:

You're running Tel Motors and you're selling cars, advertising about how cool they are. But you don't tell potential buyers that Tel Motors cars can't be driven at a speed higher than 55 mph.

My job is to tell people about cars made by Tel Motors; until Tel Motors removes their restriction. They can do it. They just don't want to lose control of the layer of info they're piling up.

But to tell your guys the truth,I am not sure whether or not .tel can survive. It depends on many factors especially marketing. If no enough people know it or use it,It fail. Techonology and face is not important.I think popular crowd No1 important.

Marketing is irrelevant, when it doesn't disclose the restrictions. I liked the Ben.tel commercial. Very creative. If I had no clue about domains, I'd go buy a .tel based on that commercial alone. The problem is that most domain users are used to having full control over what they publish on a domain's web site.

@Acroplex I do not believe Telnic is allowed to, even if they wanted to. When I get a chance, I will look at the original Icann agreement. I believe it specifically states they are not allowed to open the records up. They could try to petition and if successful, there is a pretty good chance that it will take Icann several years to be implemented.

Would I love if they did... sure. But there are many other things that can be focused on rather then this restriction.

Not so fast. The groundwork in theory is there for .tel to be better than the traditional phone book. But as of right now, .tel is the equivalent of a phone book with a thousand blank pages.

1) Can the general public figure out how to buy domain names? Think of everyone in your family across all age levels. How would each react if you told them to go buy a domain name? In my family almost nobody would know what the heck I'm even talking about.

2) Another problem is that registrar's sites are set up as B2B sites for online industry people. .tel is for a much broader user base, so it's going to take standalone .tel sales sites to cater to the general public. Simply put, things need to be dumbed down. Will the registrars do this?

3) Of those that know .tel exists and can buy one (cost & feature arguments aside), how many will keep their info updated and not let their .tel expire because of non use?

1) Yes. Anyone that can read a Phonebook can "get what this is".

2) Much Simpler, "Tel For Dummies" Interface is Needed, Agreed.
3) Still Much More likely than updating Yellow/White Pages.

I'm pretty sure that TelNic did not lock themselves out of such an option. It would be like Apple releasing a mac that won't use Intel CPUs. Oh wait - that's how they went on for several years before reality hit them.

What I'm trying to say: .tel looks cool in ads, not cool when you can't display your damn picture on a domain that is supposed to be personal! Come on, Ben.tel - you wanted that chick, where is your mugshot for her to confirm once she got there? :D

Acroplex, if you're now suggesting Telnic offer a choice of template styles, designates a special record type for a link to an avatar, stuff like that, then that's worthy of discussion. Have you finally come to accept that .tel is about the multiplicity and mobility of communication, rather than websites?

:| I'm confused. Are we talking about what the internet is supposed to be or what tel thinks it wants to be?:$::$::$:

Are you saying that TelNic should add features like Twitter does? The difference is, I don't pay for my twitter account, but paid for my .tel domains. The fact that .tel got approval on such terms is truly shocking. Adding features "per request" sounds like a great way to lose customers; especially those that face reality to this date. Would TelNic programmers scramble to implement features like the ones you quoted, before year 1 passes? Why are there no meta tags? Why are there alternate ways of addressing a .tel domain via a proxy URL, thus exposing private info to harvesters?
