For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

I poked around the .tel showcase thread for the first time last night and I can't believe the money going up in smoke in there.

This is where the true value of .tel is, considering what it is meant for and it's development limitations:

[BusinessName].tel

[PersonsName].tel

[Nickname].tel

You could make an argument for [Premium LLL].tel also, and the domaining angle likely has it's highest potential here in terms of B2B domain sales.

I think those who reg'ed [FirstName].tel will have hit the biggest home runs though (if .tel catches on).


One thing I am noticing is that many .tel supporters seem to be wowed by the standard template and no need to build your own site. One guy in the showcase thread even referred to filling out the .tel profile as development. Another woman is planning on running a vital aspect of a business right off her .tel profile. I just really feel sorry for these people. Normally I would be laughing at them, but this is beyond pathetic at this point.

HA, yes this is the Biggest problem for domainers, me too sold to someone a .tel with same problem, can you imagine that some people here have 10-20-100-500 dot tel in same account they purchase on landrush how do they get return on investment?
It's worse than anything and like a scam because will never sell your dot tel.

has anybody faced this problem? - after the transfer of a .tel domain from my account to another account the domain itself was transferred BUT the telhosting account was not transferred. So the new owner cannot use the telhosting control panel to edit the domain.
In Name.com I was told that "The .tel registry does not support
transfers yet".

Can anyone comment on whether the control panel will be able to be transferred with the domain, this is a serious problem potentially as some have already listed domains for sale, can anyone confirm both domain and panel can be transferred (particularly with name.com). I used same control panel password for all domains listed with name and there must be a way to transfer 1 single domain and change the password for just one domain too. Can anyone advise? Cheers.

Mate, Im sure telnic or registrar will fix this prob, there are many in the same boat here. Would love to here some more comments though.

I have monetize my .tel with google ad sense i even change the background color of my .tel. Still working on getting the text customize Enjoy!!!!!!!

I tried to register my nick name (valou) and yesterday it was available but today not. F@!? it. I thought no one else would have the same nick name....

You guys probably have more experience in domaining than me but I have been working in the telco industry for about 20 years; mobiles , ISP, cable.
I have this feeling that the .tel will be a success; only inferior to .com. My expectation is that almost everybody sooner or later will have a personal .tel because it is accessible from everywhere specially from mobiles. When I joined the mobile business (from the very start) no one would believe that mobiles will be everybodys accessory. It was intended for businessmen and therefore heavily priced. Our initial plans were for 50.000 prospective clients and in 3 years time we had 2 mil.

The key benefit of .tel is that you don't loose your contacts because your mobile is lost, damaged or stolen. Moreover your contacts are safe (mobile operators have access to your data - remotely without you knowing - stored in your mobile or SIM card). A lot of people will appreciate this feature, I am talking our of experience

LOL, nice photoshop, but your magic wand tool picked up a bit of the .tel logo that was similar to the background color (top left, where the reflection is) and so when you replaced it with the new color it picked it up as well.

It will take more than this for .tel to catch on since everything you said can apply to any contact site hosted on a .com.

.tel is for all intents and purposes a rinky dink social site hooked up directly to a TLD. MySpace could get their own TLD and sell username.MS for example.

And frankly, I can't believe ICANN even approved this use of .tel.

At this point there is nothing stopping other social systems from getting their own TLD to compete with .tel. MySpace, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc..... could all have their own TLD, and if that happens .tel has ZERO chance.

Cool. I wasn't aware that could be done.
That opens up the monetization potential of .TEL a bit.
I've been giving more thought to the actual buttons and our links along with custom PPC campaigns.
I hadn't given much thought to an adwords style campaign yet. Interesting.
If there is template space to be used, why not? Any additional revenue is good!
