Hi

For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

Not so much a comment, but a question - what do you plan on doing with 50cent.tel?

yea, it was the only one name i did it for, but maybe i should have sat there trying to beat out other pre-orders, seems i could have picked off a windfall of good names.

on another note, i had a list of 70 first names that were *not* pre-ordered on domainmonster as of yesterday. i just ran a check and not one of them is available, *all* 70 have been regged. :o
If you're interested in unreg'd first-name .tel's, I posted some in the "Available Domain Names" forum today (here). Not the very most common ones, but still pretty good. (They were all available when I posted the list; haven't checked since then.)

Bronx is nice!

Billings is pretty good; I got a similar one (Wilmington, largest city in Delaware & one of largest cities in North Carolina).

Hopefully. It could be a result of opening day jitters :) Everyone is probably taking a lot of bandwidth from TelHost. We'll see.

btw, nice job with poets.tel :)

Thanks, FathomJH,

I agonized over getting poets.tel during landrush, given that I already have the .net. Now I'm glad I did.

I just wanted an easy and unfettered contact link for the four sites. That's the beauty of .tel.

I almost waited until GA, but it might have been gone by then, and I didn't want to take the chance.

Sure, I could have built a simple page, but I like the smplicity of the card, given that my sites tend to be busy.

And every single step along the way I repeated that one needs to do their own research and conduct due diligence prior to investment (and, moreover, that the landrush $300+/- registration fees were costly and, thus, riskly) ... that being said, I do still think that the .TEL is a very unique extension (for instance, no development required) and seems like a good, highly brandable alternative for access to vital contact information for those that are on their mobile devices while in a hurry and out and about while "on the go"! :talk: :imho:

I wish all investors well, naturally! :music:
See you soon.

Thanks Sir Jeff, your comments about .tel have been quite accurate, I don't give .mobi much hope either, still bewildering that people can compare it to .tel (vaguely similar in that it is suited to mobile- that's about it).

A few GA:

heloc[.]tel (Believe it or not, this keyword/acronym earns $9.00 - 14.00 a click--could have a link to a .com site)

ring-tone[.]tel

ring-tones[.]tel

shortcode[.]tel

shortcodes[.]tel

avatar[.]tel

emoticon[.]tel

emoticons[.]tel

icons[.]tel

smiley[.]tel

smileys[.]tel

smilies[.]tel

trends[.]tel

ticker[.]tel

siouxcity[.]tel (where I was born)

equityloans[.]tel

equityloan[.]tel

homeequityloan[.]tel

BusinessForSale[.]tel (surprising high exact search numbers--I could rent this one out for short term use).

crosswords[.]tel

A few more that I'm not quite ready to reveal yet.

When I was thinking of keywords, I tried to think of activities and services one might do and find on a cell phone. For landrush, I had pre-ordered ringtones and ringtone, but someone beat me to it. Then I discovered that ring tones and ring tone also get high search numbers, but no way was I going to pay $300 for them. So preordered for GA. I don't know if it was a good move or not.

Anyway, I'm done regging these. Time to start loading them.

:)

There is a lot of good info on the Legal/Dispute thread on what trademark terms can be used for alternate uses. There are a lot of nuances, and they are not always clear.

The short answer: if the trademarked term is made-up specifically for a product or service, like Verizon, then no.

I don't think anytime soon as they don't stand to make any money off hosting (.tel's don't need reg. hosting). Who knows, maybe they will some time :)

Uh, I don't believe anyone said they were 'similiar'! But maybe you did! And I'm sure you'll be able to monetize your .tels ....well...., somehow! I also guess we'll have to see if Foxnews et al, promotes and puts their Foxnews.tel on their logo on screen, like they do for .mobi and .com! (But I'd take the bet that they won't!)

Well you may have noted it a 'few' times, but unfortunately there will be those, noobies or not, that didn't see everyone of your posts, and probably figured that someone with 'Staff...' under his name and his consistant ramping of the 'highly brandable .tel', and figure that must a qualified endorsement (not!) and a good thing to buy into. Subliminal messages are a little more powerful than you may realize! The good news is, if there are those that regged .tels because of that hype, .. it was 'you' that put it in their subconscious, and no one else!!
