Hi

For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

Does the orange check mark mean I didn't get the domain name?
I hope not.....

All I can say is that my orange checks went to someone else. The best way to see is to check all your names against Tel whois:

http://telnic.org/whois.html

All my green checks have been registered to me, and when I queried DM, they assured me that my card would authorize. I also called my cc co. from home.

Remember, too, that domains may become available if someone's credit card doesn't clear.

BTW, I printed out all my Whois, directly from the Telnic site.

It pays to be prepared.

I remember .me being totally chaotic, so anything could happen.

As always, do your due diligence & research beforehand ... and don't go overboard (or outside of your budget) with the new & highly brandable .TEL :talk: :imho:
Good Luck.

are you in on this one or out?

your siggy suggests at the moment you like .tel D-:

It's as useless now as it was last month.

Sure many recent extensions have not done too well; however, I believe with a correct approach to this extension one can succeed. All be it not the same approach as successful extensions, but a correct approach nonetheless. Could be a paradigm shift imo :D

Great advice imo. I hope some of the "new domainers" are reading this thread. I'd hate to receive an email saying I didn't get my domain for whatever reason. That would surely burst my bubble :D

Why will it succeed? It's neutered. It gives less options than other recent failures but somehow it will surpass them while being handcuffed?

Not only are you crippled on what you can do with it, your potential avenues of actually making money (the reason we are all here after all) is extremely limited. Sorry, but .tel is doomed to be lumped in with .name, .travel .et al.

Think of it this way - you can have a shop in a crowded mall or a storefront way out in the rural areas of town with only one road in and out, limited parking and restricted hours. Which do you choose if you actually want to MAKE MONEY? The choice is obvious.

Sunrise or not, showcase your best .tels.
I'm anxious to see how people did!

I'm still on the sidelines atm, but I am too looking forward to seeing what people snagged.

individual .tel "sites" dont need to make money for the extension to succeed

It's a vanity extension or a business card extension

how many people would like a place on the net with their contact info but dont know how to set up a web site and/or dont want to dick around with facebook or myspace etc

the extension could easily make it long term with a few million people using their .tel as a business card

I haven't endorsed or purchased any .tel's, but I respect people's business plans. However, I have seen some poorly registered (sorry :)) .tels. On the slip-side, I have seen some ones with great potential. I think the people actually in this to make money and the heart and soul to put time into it have a great chance of success.

The ways to make revenue with this extension are greatly limited compared to other extensions. I think the smart and hardworking people will succeed.

Well, I did manage to snag a really valuable .Tel.

I'll update you in a bit on the particulars.

Thanks,

My thoughts; the people at Telnic have just given us a masterclass in how a registry, or any business for that matter, should roll out it's products/services - by engaging with the community, running tight development iterations and incorporating feedback into them quickly, making the whole experience fun and exciting.. I felt like a kid today, finding lots of Easter eggs that Justin had cleverly stationed :)

Perfectly said! Xmas came early this morning for me, hehe (around 4am NZ time, lol)

i agree

prob the only thing it's good for is personal names. as if you're a business you'll have a website, and formatted for mobile will load instant etc

and if it gets a modicum of success in that area i dont even see helen.tel etc. going for above low xxx - mid tops. i really think this domain will not sell at all to domainers either. who's gonna buy?

i think the vid was good though. thing is though, if he didn't have the balls to chat to her on the train, why would he chat when on platform :sold:

also is nestle.tel the best example of they can use in pr? and the domain monster statement is pretty ambiguos. doesn't really say much

anyway good luck.
