Hi

For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

I got about 40 pre-ordered, in 3 spanish different registrars, all spanish words

Good luck

I'm also looking at getting Spanish and French domains. Have to worry about the accents later.

Good luck in the pre-regs and hand regs tomorrow.

Cheers,

Cheers,

Just got an email from domain monster hyping up the GA...they say "it's the biggest launch to date"..although don't forget in terms of their personal regos, they dont have go daddy as competition this time around.. but nice to know there is so much interest in the amount of registrations already done at least.

I gotta believe that not having two of the bigger competitors in the ball game will make a difference to some of the lesser known/popular registrars.

I do!

Some surprising ones as well, which means that there will be competition for them at other registrars.

Wish us all luck!

thanks guys i will work on the issue to sort it out but i need to plan it well, since i dont want to make the directory so big that then its even hard to manage but then again i would want it to be a hit, interms of both SEO and listing

people when they come to .tel page they would notice where they are browsing anymore they would try to go in more into it or else come to the main by click the first directory as i assume.

in the mean time good luck to everyone.

Speaking of accents, all the keywords (TXT records) are UTF-8, but the contact data (NAPTR records and their labels) are not.
We are certainly going to work on implementing IDNs for .tel (no timeline yet, let's get the basic stuff going 100%), so that in the future you'll be able to get accented .tel domains (and therefore .tel links as well).

Another option: Integrate your .tel with a mobile-compliant .com directory. The .com does not necessarily be high ranking keywords, just intuitive ones. That way, your .tel does not have to be that deep.

For example:

USA.Where.tel, Russia.Where.tel, Europe.Where.tel could go directly to that page on the .com site.

I have HereInformation[dot]com and WhereInformation[dot].com to go with here and where [dot] tel (I have some shorter .coms as well, such as H-ere and Wh-ere , but I'm just not too sure of those puppies).

Cheers,

I know godaddy is one of the main registrars in a launch and takes a large chunk of regos', but would be interested to know to what level not having godaddy on board selling .tel's affect's other registrars... from what I can find, it seems there were only 110 regsitrars selling .asia for example, whilst there are now 143 selling .tel's, which seems quite impressive considering there is not a lot of profit for them selling any other add ons like hosting (apparently this is the main reason godaddy didnt bother selling .tel). If anyone has figures of registrars involved in other tls launches, would be interested to compare.

Dotster now has a link to telhosting.

However, I can't log in to telhosting. I get an invalid user name/password.

Any ideas?

phase111 - I think that for some of the smallest players it makes a huge difference. For us - it's made a difference, but I'm sure that others have reaped far bigger rewards.

We're excited to see what tomorrow's general availability brings, but it's also true that without upsell possibilities it's hard to make margins. That being said, Name.com is launching GA with a bang at $8.95/year for .tel

Hope you all get what you want tomorrow!

Awesome, thanks for the info! I found name.com to be the cheapest with landrush too, I was only paying just on $300 for my names through them.

Help!

Question....

North America.tel shows up as northamerica.tel

How do you change this so it looks like North America.tel or even NorthAmerica.tel

Thanks! :)

Are you able to use your Dotster login or did you get a separate telhosting login from Dotster?

I never got any email from Dotster.

I checked in my account and saw the link, so I tried logging in.

No luck.

I must say, for being the most expensive registrar, Dotster's service hasn't been that fast or knowledgeable.

Tried to go on chat with Dotster customer support. I sat here for 30 minutes, while I waited my turn in the queue, and then, with 50 seconds to go, poof! chat was canceled on me.

This reminds me of Yahoo's customer no service, and I definitely will not put up with that kind of nonsense again.

If this poor level of support continues, in 60 days, I will be transferring my domains to another registrar.

Nothing but problems with this registrar.

Yeah.

I'll be transferring those domains out ASAP.

It's only two, thank goodness.

There seems to be a rule: the more expensive the product, the lousier the service (Think Netsol and Yahoo). The only reason I used them is because of pre-booking of landrush.

As much as I dislike GoDaddy (mostly those big-b00bed bubbleheads they love so much and their awful domain panel), I have never had a customer service problem with them.

In fact, I have had no customer service issues at all with GD.
