Hi

For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

Any general promo codes on name.com? Looks like they have the best price out there, but even a small discount is welcome with such a high reg fee!

Jeez, what a tight guy! I had a look for them some time back when I was buying some .tels through name but couldn't find any, lol...only found discounts for other extensions.

Hi oracle49. Welcome to NamePros and hopefully to Name.com.

We're not offering any discounts on .TEL. As others have mentioned, we're far and away the least expensive option for the land rush registration period.

How do you get that? It started at 325 and then once over 600 there you get bulk of 299.. did I miss something for Dynadot?

haha, yeah mine too, but has been hard to keep closed for .tel, so many great names available (at least there were before) and so much potential. At least with fewer names to register now, it's not as difficult to decide which ones to get as before. I got stuttgart.tel the other day as a geo ...no way I would have considered that before, but most of the good geos are gone now...still with 1/2 a mil population it is still a good buy I think?

I don't think you'll go wrong with this good GEO

Whew, thanks for the vote of confidence, i wasn't so sure soon after reging but am quite happy with it now... all the best Teutonic cars come from there too, like porsche (even says so on their badge, lol)...anyway folks, you may have heard about .tel doing their poll in late 2008 to gauge business's opinion on the new extension....I just found the full report of this online that was done by epoll, with good results all round..check the full survey with graphs etc here: http://static.telnic.org/registrars/downloads/Corporate_Survey.pdf

Is there anyone ont his thread that has invested over 3k in .tel?

Hello, yes I have invested more than $3k in .tel domains. My view is that there is potential.

IMHO:

Positives: new, dns based, well financed, usefulness of hub for communications, not well known (yet) so perhaps can get good names cheaper, vanity aspect, directory value, last but not least the incredibly accessible (for senior figure) Justin Haywood - ty

Negatives: hard to use management console (well for me at least!), not well known (yet) so final demand is very unpredictable, bland style and format to pages,

Having said that the dmain, IMHO, will evolve and change and (hopefully) become more popular. I live for the day someone says to me "just dot tel me -johnsmith2075"

It's not hard to see the day when the white pages part of .tel kicks in...where people can just tell you there .tel anywhere and then you can go to that on your mobile or internet phone (when that becomes mainsteam)( and just type in johnsmith2075, now sure that might sound like a handful of a name but it's certainly easier to remember than 842 377 4444 etc. Then you just click to connect to the long phone number string that you no longer have to type in or remember personally. Also, people can go for a whole range of name options.. it could be zion66.tel for example- plenty of word and number combos available for this to keep it shorter....so exciting when you fully grasp the possibilities huh.

You have nailed it.

Yes, there are some negatives--in the demo, the console is a little tricky, and sometimes links go inactive, but I also think that these bugs will be worked out.

I'm not so concerned about "bland" just yet; I'm more interested in functionality. In the future, cool skins would be nice, but for now, users want their card to load fast and work correctly.

I get the sense that telnic is in this for long haul and not just to make a quick buck. Of course, the company wants to see a profit, and why shouldn't they?

It's what we all want, right?

God knows that Telnic have had to wait long enough to get the green light to release it! In my mind that can only mean also, that they have had the time to also plan everything really well for release. The guys that are backing this are very saavy businessmen, they wouldn't have invested in just any old thing... even if it got off to a slow start, they would hardly let it collapse with so much money already heavily invested. you can often judge a business by the quality of investors backing it and I'm confident Telnic have the resources and expertise to pull this off long term.

We really appreciate the kind words. We try to plan for every eventuality, and we hope that the infrastructure and policies set in place will allow for the building of amazing products. We're showing you a number of ways to use .tel, and we can tell you what we think will work, but we must and will rely on your entrepreneurial spirit and creativity to determine what to do with it. All I know is that .tel solves significant problems in a massive market that is full of inefficiencies. And that generally provides utility (money/happiness/...) for everyone in the value chain.

I was done with the internet and ready to enjoy life, but I figured I couldn't live with myself if in years to come I told my grandchildren we didn't try to go beyond phone numbers when we had the chance.

I'm going back to lurking, leaving the floor to Justin, so to speak.
H

PS: Are you guys sending us feedback on the Telhosting console via the proper channel? it's easy to miss useful info in forums such as these.

:santa: Wow, what if dot TEL is the new era instead of telephone number era. Yes, it could be due to we are going to use VoIP instead.
