Hi

For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

Out of curiosity, I thought I'd check some randoms to see what was still available:....

Odd ones that are taken:
BarackObama.tel
Obama.tel
Escorts.tel

Actually, I think Escorts could be quite a good one. :) A directory could be formed for Escorts in various citys.... all paying to have their info listed on Escorts.tel of course!

FOLKS! Keep this thread clean, please!

There's no bashing of this extension in this thread.
I believe that we have adults in here that are well aware of the risks investing $xxx per domain into .TEL

Many have read countless warnings of this extension, many have adhered to it, many others have a different business plan.

Please keep this thread to showing your .TEL registrations and questions regarding the extension ONLY!

Thanks,

Mike

Actually, you're right! :tu:

I'm very surprised how many .TEL have been registered. I didn't think this many would have been snatched up today!

What else has everyone else registered?

If you think .tel is for then do your homework, register only premium, relevant names and keep within your preset budget.

Chances are you will make a profit. :gl:

After registering 5 .me and one sale my profit is now over $3,000 - If you don't try with .tel guess what your chances of profit are :? :sold:

Good Times!!!

Well, I certainly can understand some of the concerns. As with any new extension, there is always concern for it's future performance. Domainers are having a hard time grasping this one because.... ready for it..... here it comes....... There is no website! OMG! How can you have an extension that doesn't allow you to build a website around it? How ever can you expect to monetize!

Well, you can monetize. You can store as much info as you want on .tel...FREE! And, you can charge for anyone who wants to have their info listed.

I don't think people will make money with first or last names.... or with random words.... But words like Hotel.tel, or CarRental.tel I believe have a chance....

I don't know how popular it will be for PC's, but for Palm Pilots, Blackberry's, Cell Phones etc.. It has a very good chance. IMO.

I've heard some people may say "hey man, that's what google or yahoo is for.."

How many times have you typed in a search term and hundreds of millions of results show up... Then you start looking, and the first 40,50,60 listings are all directed to the same single site... what a waste of time! Plus the graphics take forever to load up on your hand held device...

Now go to hotel.tel. Simple. No heavy duty graphics that take forever to load up. Navigation is easy and direct. Hotels --> Country --> City --> and then the listings of hotels.. complete with phone #'s, google maps, address, website and whatever other contact info you want.

This will be handy when you don't know what hotels are offered in a particular city that you are visiting or may plan to visit.. It will be handy if you don't want to use or don't have access to a phonebook, it may even be handier than using google on your PC because you won't have to wade through all the crap to find what you are looking for.

The big thing will be how Telnic promotes, as well as how the Registrars promote... Then, the public will have to make their choice.

I don't know if it will be a winner or a loser...it is too early to .tel.

I do believe though, that you have to think a little more outside the box on this one.... Let your ingrained domaining ideas go...just a little.. :)

Ya... I'm definately done now. I wish it was cheaper!

I have a couple dozen great names on my wish list, but no doubt they will be gone before general reg. :'(

I went after the group of domains listed below on the basis that .tel will make it possible to quickly and seamlessly place phone calls through the use of direct navigation traffic to the phone numbers of businesses that elect to promote their goods and services through the domain space created by Telnic.

Or, for matters less exigent, visitors can simply click the posted web link - much in the same way as they do now with Adwords.

What the naysayers have failed to recognize is that some situations can only be resolved by speaking to another person at the end of a phone line. With traditional monetizing models, that's not always high on the priority list - and even more difficult to make happen from a mobile device.

I have no doubt that the Telnic concept will only evolve in ways that more efficiently promote and enhance connectivity on both personal and commercial levels for the future. When I think of .tel, I see it as a combination of white pages, yellow pages, social networking and 1 800 [fill-in this blank with your choice of generic] - integrated into a navigable single standard format.

Each one of us must make our own decision. I figure I won't get a second chance at this first offering of Telnic domains, so I've made mine.

I must say, Im surprised that people are buying two and three word domains and less than premium names when there are still some great names out there- remember these arent cheap so why not spend a while going through all the best possibilities before making a spur of the moment choice.

Yup.

Here is one for the people who like to share their contacts...
It can be private for friends and family or public listings.

Share.Tel

What time did you register Connecticut.tel? Which other state is available now?

Call me crazy, but I think geographic .TEL's will be big winners.

The larger the population the more you can charge for listings on the site, no?

Share.Tel

I like it. Lots of possibilities, especially with sub domains....

Eg.
Info.share.tel

That's what I'm hoping..... Actually, I don't know if you could/should charge more...but, you would make more by getting more listings from the larger population. (In my opinion)

Share.tel was one I almost bought after losing shares.tel in landrush lol. Certainly one of the better ones out there. I should have pre ordered states and cities...I only preordered country domains (along with generics), not realising they wouldn't be available at all, d'ah. I think geo domains will be pretty good as well, wish I had bought Iowa which was available about 10 hours ago...went and watched a movie instead and it had gone in between, lol.

Ya, that bummed me out when all of my country names were dropped... So, I went for continents instead! :tu:

Yes, you can establish a commercial directory operating on a basis of being paid to list a link or piece of contact information or set of contact information with a sub-domain for that purpose.
Thank you for clarifying that - to be frank, the whole issue of sub-delegation in the AUP was somewhat confusing, but it is now clearer how far one can go or not.

I would suggest that you should put on Telnic's website, later, a detailed explanation on that issue, preferably not in legalese jargon.

I only picked:

Baku.Tel

Baku is the capital city of my country. Population of Baku is about 4 mln.
