For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

Depending on registrar it ranges from: 295 (name.com) - 375 (dotster)

It was an ironic remark! I deeply dislike the cluttered appearance of GoDaddy, and I wanted to suggest they could take the uncluttered .tel interface as a model to follow. It was a joke, not a serious suggestion!

Definitely, you can add some directory-based information - otherwise most of us probably wouldn't have bought one. In fact, it is only when I discovered there was such an option that I finally decided to take a few, although I was initially deeply reluctant to book any.

sorry guys been away i didnt get any of my domain name 8 which were for me, infact i was told that they had sunrises over it, its funny i asked them incase they sunrises dont go through then who will get it, they said they might auction it off.

i thought they would do a fair job on .tel but tell you what when greed comes it comes in all forms i am totally devastated i never knew it would effect me so much, i just don't belive any registries now i think its not worth it,

Nope. You can add subdirectories (called folders in your console).

In my vip account, I was able to create a subdomain of my subdomain account, which, I assume is gone by now.

Here's an example which does NOT resolve:

paris.hotel.tel​

I assume you can add a subdomain of a subdomain:

EiffelTower.paris.hotel.tel​

Also, I was able to add at least two website contacts on my main page. You can add limited text (for example, a description of your business), keywords, address, hobbies.

Also, if you include a phone number, mobile phone users will be able to dial, just by clicking on the phone number.

It seems I only got nightclubs[dot]tel from those I pre-ordered.

I wish I had some more but at least I have this one. I think it fits the extension perfectly.

as mentioned before, you CANNOT modify the DNS settings of a .tel domain. you cannot put unique content on it.... you basically use the same template as everyone else... for an example see http://Justin.tel

Is it true? If so - .tel is real BS.....

2 went out ( property.tel and hotel.tel ) but the rest all seemed clear and now its all gone cause .tel finally thought of announcing that it had that many sunrise application and all i think its all just fake so much for not holding up names or auctioning them off cause they will later on sedo or else where

if they want money so much they should have just priced it 3000 or plus anyone who wanted it would have grabed it.

i would have paid 3000 for casino.tel or any other good .tel

Domains were not created for people to buy, sell and trade. As such, this extension was not created for "domainers." You cannot place ads on these sites and monetize them. If you intend to monetize these domains I would stay away. If you intend to "hold" and resell later to an "end-user," I would not recommend this as well.
