Try to think .tel as lastname, firstname, or phone services ( pizza.tel, credit.tel, taxi.tel, lawyer.tel ...)
Definitivly do not think .tel as .com or website, this is a major error. :td:
If you were about to drop John.tel or Robert.tel, i would have been please to buy it from you :gn:
If I had john.tel I would be very happy to sell it to you as I think first names are a waste of money unless a celebrity comes forward and buy it from you. Otherwise how can you commercialize John.tel? by creating a directory of all people whose first name is John?
It must be clear by now that unless there is commercial value to a domain, that domain is useless and has minimal or zero resell value. So in my opinion the domain name must reflect a REAL tangible object or service.
The domain market is similar to the stock market especially as regards dot tels. In this sense the current perspective of the tel domain market is based on anticipation rather than actual facts. Perceived services to be offered rather than REAL services
Thinking of a tel as com may be an option since you can just change name servers and redirect your tels to some real web site. The problem is though that you will not get much traffic from it.
Real problem with tels is that Telnic has really no vision , no imagination about their product and even worse they listen to all that crap advise on how to make tel directories.
Coming to directories, one must think the audience the directory addresses. For B2B services directories, the use of a tel may not be very appropriate. Businesses especially large ones do careful screening on their partners, suppliers and distributors. Simply they will not pick up the phone and call someone because he is listed in your tel dir. They visit exhibitions, trade fairs, consult financial services, industry reviews etc.
The use of tel directories must be thought as a B2C service with attention to the locality of the service i.e plumbers, electricians, florists, nurses etc are very good candidates to be listed in a tel dir. Nuclear scientists are not
Finally, the dot tel product has a future only if Telnic makes a few minor changes to it which will transform their offering to a complete mini-website. i.e allow text (5000 characters) as header, allow hyperlinks and introduce better navigation characteristics i.e back - next
