Hi

For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

It's pretty common knowledge that you can not link to parked pages. It's a fairly effective way to have your account blocked. You CAN link to an offer page though. From our friends at
SEDO

Thank you for the clarification. :)

A new way to monetize!

Monetization!

I just partnered with a very profitable affiliate network which will allow me to market my .TEL leads directly to my affiliate website.

You may review my integration of this site at http://www.Merchandise.tel
( located on the top page link entitled - "Fast Cash in 30 Mins" )

Thanks,

LOL. But check the record on this ... I was calling it the simplicity and <quote>beauty of</unquote> of the highly branable .TEL perhaps even before you became a member here, my good fellow! :music:

Anyway, if utilized properly ... it seems like a very intuitive and easily marketable extension for the masses to embrace; for use by those that are "on the go"! :talk: :imho:

I haven't done this yet (and won't if it's against TOS), but this is what I would do:

1. On ring-tones [dot] tel, place a link to ringtonestel [dot] com, which would be parked on Sedo. Under description: "Get ringtones here"

It might be worth making a new thread asking about this, but I don't think it's kosher to actively drive site traffic to parked pages.

As was mentioned earlier in the thread "It's pretty common knowledge that you can not link to parked pages. It's a fairly effective way to have your account blocked. You CAN link to an offer page though."

A link was also provided to sedo explaining:

Question

May I link to my parked domain from a website I own?

Answer

No. Sedo can only accept natural traffic. Driving traffic to your parked domains violates Sedoโ€™s complete Terms and Conditions and Rules for Domain Parkers. However, you may provide links to the offer pages of the domains. The following URL may be used when directing others to your offer pages:

http://www.Sedo.com/search/details.php4?domain=DOMAIN.TLD

Note: You must replace "DOMAIN.TLD" with the domain name you want to sell (e.g. the link to the offer page for freefonetones.com would be
"http://www.Sedo.com/search/details.php4?domain=freefonetones.com").

people wouldn't be paying monthly fees to use cell phones for example (on top of home phone charges) if they werent so practical and useful.
Let's use your cellphone example and thus assume that someone is willing to pay double for usefulness.

Landline ($20) vs Cellphone ($40)

Phonebook (Free) vs .tel (lol)

On Monday, I will be doing telephone followup with 2 of my prospects and will attempt to deliver a professional, concise presentation on the "benefits" of owning a .TEL.

What I've learned is that most of these guys 'have not heard of .TEL' and often times need to be educated about the functionality of this TLD.

In view of this, every sales proposal that I send out will also be accompanied with a PDF file summarizing .TEL.

"Have you heard about the benefits of snakeoil.tel yet? For my low price of $600 you can..."

How is monetization going ?
Let me rephrase that for you...

Has anyone here made even 1 cent off their .tel's besides flipping them?

Your just comparing one small aspect of .tel (that of a phonebook killer) which is fine in my view it probably is so adding it all up: yellowpages (free but paid for some listings) vs .tel ($15 and cheaper than a premium yellow pages listing + you get a crap load of other advantages such as vanity, marketing appeal of tel domain name itself and you get to store all your other communication types on there too)

Okay, let me ask you this.

If you are a business and have to choose between a yellow pages listing and a .tel, what do you pick???????

Depends when you are asking me that question.. now or when .tel is massively popular on a big global basis.. In any case, even if you are talking right now, I would happily list in both. By securing a listing in a .tel early, I would hope that I will be near the top of the directory listings for when it becomes a more highly sought directory, hehe

I guess the question is for "now" as it needs the present support to become "massively popular on a big global basis".

Interesting. So you think the listings in this new kind of phonebook of the future will be ordered by .tel creation date?

Well that's it. The .tel "development" house of cards is starting to fall.

First they were going to charge telephone connection fees, but that seemed a bit too hard to set up.

Then they were going to do paid link directories, but they realized nobody would pay for links on .tel profiles with no traffic.

Then they were going to hope for some typeins and link to parked domains, but that is against the parking TOS.

Let's see what the next step is in the monetization gutter.

Well, good for you then. You are ripping people off considering .tel domains aren't getting traffic worthy of selling links.

It's no different than the .com directory sites that contact small businesses trying to sell a placement without mentioning that their site has no users.

not sure if this is widely known, but there's been a bit of discussion about the international number formatting not being ideal for local calls or emergency 911 , 000 etc. I will attach a screenshot. its showing no restrictions on number formatting, SIMPLY put numbers in the header field... i'm discussing more things at testMy.tel

enhancing simple html file that is the template for mobile handsets

since iphone v2.1 all webpages can be saved to the home
screen. if they are then re-launched, a full-screen mode will appear without the Safari/web-browser wrapper, essentially mimicking the experience of a native app.

...maybe something as simple as this snippet of code is all that needs to be added to the simple generated html file, and the browsing experience is greatly improved for iphone toting guests to .tel sites

<meta name="apple-mobile-web-app-capable" content="yes" />
<meta names="apple-mobile-web-app-status-bar-style" content="black-
translucent" />

hmmm. more stuff like this at testMy.tel
not sure about android and others just yet.
cheers
