This thread was created to bring a local new story to light, which can be viewed below:

JACKSON, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio school district decided Tuesday night to keep a portrait of Jesus hanging in the school where it's been 65 years, denying a federal lawsuit's claim the portrait's display unconstitutionally promotes religion in a public school.

The Jackson City Schools board offered a constitutional justification of its own in voting 4-0 to keep the portrait up in its middle school, saying it must protect students' free speech rights. The vote drew cheers and applause from the dozens of people gathered in the elementary school gymnasium.

Read all of it here: http://news.yahoo.com/ohio-school-b...xzBHB0A3N0b3J5cGFnZQR0ZXN0A1Rlc3RfQUZD;_ylv=3

I posted his here @ NP to see what ppl had to say on the issue. As it turns out, this sparked many debates. I've considered closing this thread but after multiple suggestions, I decided to keep it open. Feel free to join in the topics but per forum rules, please refrain from obscene, threatening, rude, or insulting posts.

Jesus was (and is) real and no reputable scholar disagrees the debate always centers on his deity. To be a Christian you have to believe Jesus is God. To be high quality you do not have to believe in God. I'd say be safe and trust Jesus for forgiveness of all your sins. He is the way ---the truth--- and the life. Without faith we can't please God and without Jesus we are not Christian. Again, being atheist you can be moral but we can't say for sure what happens when you die and I will not judge that. Jesus gives us peace with God, He is real and always will be worshipped.

im not here to argue about jesus.

I only said true faith does not require him to be real.

but attaining true faith may at stages require us to believe he was real.

the truth and enlightenment are not something we attain or get it .. it's more of a return... to innocence...

hence the bible quote about becoming like children..

and yes.. the song by enigma too

enlightenment is the realization that we have nothing to attain to. we truly must kill the buddha. and the white rabbit too while we are at it .. rather than follow it...

Yeah, I disagree depending on how you define faith. Most would define faith as some sort of religious belief, and all major religions believe Jesus is real and established true faith. The argument is on deity. Christians believe he's God, Jews believe he existed but not God (and false), Islam believes he was an amazing religious teacher. This is a religious thread so you can debate Jesus as you already did. Even Buddhist believe Jesus was amazing.

all good
I'm not here to kick any faith
but u know.. try not to kick mine lol

well to me faith is not someting we define.. with words.. or by religion.. so when I say true faith I mean that which is beyond words.. religions... etc... it's a lived direct experience.. and its purity and strength is directly proportional to how unshakable it is to external events.. circumstance.. noise.. words.. religions... etc... I know jesus represented such faith .. whether he had it or not well as I said it depends whether your present faith needs u to believe he ever existed or not.

u may not believe me... but the only thing jesus wanted or would have wanted u to do is become like he was. that was his message. and the entire meaning of bible.

because there is baby jesus living in all of us. some call it divine spark. born an animal. surrounded by animals in stable... but with divine potential... alchemy is the process.. the stone is the goal...

...and Krishna said to arjuna... at the end of countless lifetimes tis man comes unto me... god is all he exclaims.... such a spirit sublime .. how rarely Is he found...

Jesus wants us to be like him and our conscience is what helps guide us that is what you called baby Jesus in us. We all have potential to learn from him. The bible does talk about him. Thousands of world religious which one is right is your choice but the majority says Christianity. The blood Jesus will perhaps atone for those that never heard of him. We shall see how deep the grace is when we pass on to eternal life.

not just learn from him.

but potential to literally be like him.

tis is the art of being alive.

the highest of all arts.

some rare few are born with it. others suffer for it all life. or receive by grace. but most surely none can buy it.

... it is a path of righteousness o arjuna.. very easy to follow... leading to the highest end... but he who has no faith in this truth comes not unto me.. and returns to the cycles of life and death... the illusion of maya

I don't believe we become God's but we do have freedom to believe that. Being alive is like art it is a picture God is painting. Grace is from God and we all suffer in this life sometimes our choice sometimes when others harm us. No one is perfect and to achieve potential of being like God happens in the Heavenly realm IMO.

what is this place
if not heaven or hell
depending on how we make it

everything is divine. every atom and ant and man. there is nothing that is not god. or made by him. or part of him.

to not realize this is the life of illusion or maya. the unrealized potential of jesus.

here and now is heaven or hell. glory or failure.

as wise man once said... there are two ways only to live... as if everything is a miracle or nothing.

be strong mighty arjuna... no step is ever lost on this path..
this is my word of promise to u that he who loves me shall not perish

well that is enuf from alcy.

I leave u to it then

peace out

word to your mama

ice ice baby

all right stuff

We learn from Jesus and He is high quality. There is much to learn from Jesus. A profound positive effect on the world. Jesus in belivers the hope of glory. Christ is coming back, I think Islam believes that too. Are you ready?

What are your thoughts on Buddha. The dude who taught him during Jesus‘s teenage years?

Buddha is a quality teacher of moral values he didn’t teach Jesus. Christ taught His people a message of love and acceptance. Thanks Buddha for teaching the same. I don’t worship Buddha but don’t blame those who do. After we die we can see if Buddha is in Heaven.

Streets are saying Buddha taught him during his lost years. We know of Jesus miraculous birth, we know him as an adult. But what was he doing as a kid and teenager? They’re saying he was hitchhiking around on donkeys finding himself. One day he found Buddha and the rest is history.

So what was Jesus doing as a kid and teenager?

If we don't create reality, reality will be created for us. The world breaks everyone, but we cannot change the world, we can only change ourselves and, in the end, many are made strong in the broken places. The only thing constant is change, and change is gonna come...

Jesus grew up going to Hebrew school and was doing some work as a young child as a carpenter then continued that into his adult years too. Also, as a child Jesus was hanging-out with the religious leaders just teaching and learning. Jesus was spending much time in his fathers house. Jesus was learning, teaching and growing in wisdom.

Big chunk of time missing, his teenage years and his 20's, from 12-30. Those are pretty formative years. Last time he's mentioned in the bible was age 12 (when he's last mentioned in the Gospels at the Temple in Jerusalem, Luke 2:41–52) then just pops back up at age 30 when his public ministry begins with his baptism by John the Baptist.

12-30, the Lost Years. Well, my sources on the ground again confirm he was being taught by the Buddha, which makes sense, everybody has a teacher. You can just go to the source, Buddha, and cut out the middleman.

@JB Lions Jesus' early years would be interesting but the bible would be thousands of pages if we included all his childhood or their might not even be enough pages to cover it. Jesus went to Hebrew school and probably as a child was working with Joseph in carpentry. Jesus was doing manual labor for free to help Joseph and Mary have money to eat. Jesus being both God and man, Jesus probably had friends growing up and played with them. He most likely went to the synagogue many times a week. So 12-30 was covered, and I'm sure Jesus had a full schedule. Then in his 30s He became a great teacher; a Rabbi.
