E-learning.tv took the #18 spot for CCTLD on the DN Journal weekly sales report. $4,445

The domain looks to be purchased by a company in Poland, the non hyphenated version regged since 2002 by a registrant in South Korea.

Opinions on paying this much for a hyphenated version.

It will be interesting to see if this domain is developed. I personally don't see paying that much for a hyphenated .TV domain.

In any event, it's good news for Dot TV.

Many electronic schools etc have "e-learning" in their online documentation etc... not surprised to see this name go for that at all...

Thanks for posting this nugget, equity.

I think domainers make way too much of hyphens.

I think it's a nice domain. The e (dash) keyword thing works for me in this case.

Now i certainly would not fork over the coin but the name is of no interest to me to develop on a personal level. Overall, it may be a bit surprising in the current economic times we live, but the buyer still got a bargain when you really think about it. If that's the name they had their heart on and really wanted then $4445 is a flat out BARGAIN.

$4500 is certainly nothing to sneeze at for anyone - but it's certainly not a fortune these days.

domainers are not the only one.

Marketing managers steer away due to branding issues.

Nothing hurts your brand more than confusion. If you have to say action "dash" videos "dot" tv, half the people won't hear the dash and will remember actionvideos "dot" tv.

When you figure in some .com/.tv confusion, having a dash and .tv isn't a create foundation for building a brand

Yes, Lenah, these are good points. These are the same good points that folks always bring up regarding the "dash" thing.

Keep in mind that no one really knows how these good folks plan to use their new domain yet, so to speculate that their marketing/branding strategy is just that.

I can tell you that if i landed on their site and liked what i found i might be inclined to save them to my faves and/or cut/copy/paste/email a link to someone else that might likey.

Certainly this name is not for everyone.

Major chunk of traffic is SERP results
And hyphenated names have a Good chance of being well placed
especially if the non-hyphenated version is undeveloped and not even parked.

Therefore Bargain at the price.

Seems like a fair price for an end user.
The name has good potential, e-learning works well with .tv

It's an excellent name, I would tend to think the hyphen makes the name more attractive visually, easy reading, a bit academic, memorable. It does fit very well the extension. To me worth the +$4k and could have been higher.

I don't think this domain would have sold for $25 here in the TV marketplace. Anyone else?

Agree, however, it's a good place to buy .tv :gl:

if someone did a search on "e learning" would the dash in the above domain be viewed as a space as far as the search engine is concerned? and would that mean that it should be almost as good as eLearning except when a direct type in is concerned? I am learning, and looked about, but i couldnt find an example that explained this.

I believe domainers work with a narrow set rules among each others, and many times they seem to forget that the end users have different ideas on their minds, and that is reflected in the prices of the domains. There are many domains and extensions that a lot of domainers say it doesn't worth much, but then we see end users paying good money for it, because that's the name they want and/or need.

Most end users don't care about hyphens, if they want the name they get it, most end users if they can't get a dot com, they get another TLD just to get the name they want.

Another thing i see is that end users find no value in most LLLL or CCCC names, they look at it as non sense domains, they prefer good keywords, but for domainers those LLLL or CCCC worth a lot of money.

I would like to know your opinions

Regards to all

that is not true.

Probably this name will lose a considerable traffic to the non-hyphenated version.
