It seems .PRO is slowly coming out of the cage with cheaper reg prices than they were a year ago and major registrars like netsol taking notice of the extension and promoting it. B-)

Here are some that I picked up in last couple of days:

Alexandria.pro

Anchorage.pro

Arlington.pro

Belfast.pro

Birmingham.pro

Budapest.pro

Durham.pro

Fairfax.pro

Italian.pro

Lisbon.pro

Fire away with your regs after the relaunch on September 8th, 2008.

Oh, is that what they sell for these days? I let my dictionary .pro domains drop, bit of a shame but they were around ยฃ100 to renew at the time, from memory

Glad to see that .pro may be joining the competition. If they don't raise the registration costs .pro is an excellent value compared to new gtld prices. It will be interesting to see how well they play this as .pro could easily be spun as new since not may people are aware of the extension.

dot pro requirements

Hello, the registry has contacted my domain provider regarding one of my registered dot.pro domains:

We regret to inform you that the following registrant contacts have failed the second round of verification and therefore the associated domains have been placed on ServerHold Status: ...

Please note that the domains can be removed from ServerHold Status.
However, the registrant contacts must be updated and .PRO notified. Once notified, .PRO will commence another verification check on the registrant Contact. If validated then the domain will be removed from ServerHold Status. If .PRO still cannot validate the information then the domain will remain on ServerHold Status. ...

What I need to do is to add the following registrant contacts:
{"profession":"Value1",
"authorityName":"Value2",
"authorityURL":"Value3",
"licenseNumber":"Value4"}

The registrar provided additional info:
Registered Names (i.e. domain names) within the PS-SLD may be granted to individuals or entities who are admitted or licensed by, and in good standing with, a certification body or jurisdictional licensing entity which body or entity is recognized by a governmental body, and which body or entity requires its members to be continuously licensed or admitted to such body or entity as a prerequisite to providing the relevant professional service, and regularly verifies the accuracy of its data.
The above list of qualifications, however, is subject to change by the Registry Operator in consultation with the Advisory Board once it is established, provided that the qualifications reasonably ensure conformity with the basic scope defined in this Section 3 of this Appendix 11.

I would be happy if other members could give advice which values are valid for dot.pro. Especially the license number stumps.

I've used my business license number
Thanks Paul.
I assume that this is a feature in US business. Does every entrepreneur/freelancer receive such a number by the government and can it be publicly verified?
Here in Germany I have several tax IDs which, however, do not qualify any profession. My profession related numbers are not public so dot.pro cannot verify them.

I'm throwing a party the day they decide to remove these restrictions here in Vegas. It's really absurd in todays new gtld market.

It's a local thing actually. Each city or county may require a business license within their jurisdiction. On the state level (at least in California) is a corporate filing. The only thing that is national is a fed tax ID number that a business applies for. No idea if the latter numbers would apply to a .pro

I provided a copy of my business license when the topic of authentication came up and everything was fine. The number is public if a person wants to stand in line at the county office to look it up, it's not online however.

Total .pros registered fell from 150,913 to 143,971 in October 2013 due to 7,875 .pros expiring at Click Registrar in the month. If these are stripped out, there was a 933 increase. I think these may have been the remainder of the zip code .pros registered in bulk a few years ago. Click Registrar now only has 2,057 .pros left.

Where are you getting your data from? There have been several posts on this board that have talked about a reduction in overall .pro registrations. I like what your saying better!

I get my numbers from the registry operator stats. I have been analysing the stats every month for 6 years. Prior to August 2012, I left out 43,493 Hostway registered .pros from the number I report because I thought they were the zip code .pros that got registered in bulk. I thought including them would artificially inflate the total .pros registered. In August 2012, the Hostway 43,493 .pros disappeared and 12,993 .pros appeared at Click Registrar. I then included the 12,993 .pros because I couldn't be sure it was the zip .pros and it was a smaller number. The 12,993 then went up to 19,332 the following month and stayed at about that level until June 2013 when it started falling slowly. The fall accelerated in September and October 2013 and is now just 2,057. If you strip out the Click Registrar .pros at August 2012 and October 2013, total .pros registered have increased by 20% from 118,255 to 141,914. To put that into context, in January 2008 there were 5,991 .pros registered. Average annual growth in total .pro registrations since then is about 70%.

I'd consider that a very healthy sign.

Looks like it's dropping and at 113,357

And it probably will continue to drop with all the new ones coming. It just makes sense.
