It seems .PRO is slowly coming out of the cage with cheaper reg prices than they were a year ago and major registrars like netsol taking notice of the extension and promoting it. B-)

Here are some that I picked up in last couple of days:

Alexandria.pro

Anchorage.pro

Arlington.pro

Belfast.pro

Birmingham.pro

Budapest.pro

Durham.pro

Fairfax.pro

Italian.pro

Lisbon.pro

Fire away with your regs after the relaunch on September 8th, 2008.

That's the canned response they send when they see anything PRO related that they can't answer. But now you have a direct line back to Support. You can reply to that email and keep pressing them and eventually they should put you through to the real support guys ... or at least someone who knows something about it. But these front line people just aren't allowed to say anything.

Yep, I'm not giving up so easy ;)

I really like EnCirca and try to stick with them. I do have a few at enom. One thing about EnCirca that drives me nuts is that they have no way to download a list of your domains, exp dates, etc. When I ask them they say they are working on it !!! wtf ???

Check german registrars:

Here is what they said...

i got similar response back. I think "support" wouldn't be able to help in this matter. What would make some difference is contacting the marketing/sales department and ask them if/why/when they would have .PRO as part of their product line. When those weasels see that customer is looking for something they DON'T have, then maybe they will push further with top management or whoever makes these decisions.

I've been working with support for a few months on a problem and when it gets too deep they refer me to Support. I replied that the email address they were using was "Support." So apparently there is "support" and there is "SUPPORT."

But you're right. Need to be sending questions to sales and marketing. But Siege warfare can still be effective. Be sure to use your Trebuchet font.

Interesting to see that they are offering registration of 3 character domains now.
This is a very interesting development, though I'm sure all the 'premium' names are mostly already sold at auction or registered or reserved.

Looks like supplying professional registration is unchanged.
I think this 'professional' licensing thing is a lot easier than it looks, Encirca says this on it's website - "A business license is acceptable."

If you can't provide that basic info, you might not have a legitimate use for the domain and this keeps the scammers / squatters at bay, at least for the most part.

You're right. It is a lot easier than it looks and it's a lot easier than potential buyers think it is. A few non-PROs that I've talked to about registering PROs tell me ...

"PROs are just for doctors and lawyers and professional people. You might have been able to buy a few but what are you going to do when they come calling to check your credentials?"

Most potential buyers just don't bother to read any farther than the RegistryPro home page. It looks intimidating enough to scare most people away, especially if they're already unsure of what they're doing.

IMO 90% of the problem has simply been the lack of promotion. That sort of goes without saying. But maybe that will change on the 17th.

On the surface everything I've read indicates that the new gTLDs aren't going to happen anytime soon and possibly not at all. Maybe that's the impetus behind ProReg rolling out some changes.

There's just no way to tell. I recently had a nice dot org that was by all rights worth in the mid to high hundreds. I ran it through a number of auctions and couldn't get $60 bucks for it. Then I hooked up with a broker and he sold it in less than 24 hours for $800. So it wasn't worth $60 one day and the next day it was worth $800. There are just too many factors involved to crunch out a number.

Ironic, I own author.pro and no bites yet. :)

Which broker does .pro?

My top income name atm is a .pro btw, pretty surprising considering 'no one knows .pro' :)

I have seen several .pro domains rank on higher pages in google. I've lowered my expectations of Pro 2.0, but do think its a step in the right direction. At the very least it should pave the way for lower registration fees since it should clear the bottle neck on transfer of .pro domains.

Since they are still maintaining registration requirements, I'm not confident we are going to get the boost I would have hoped for. Again, its still a step in the right direction. Since a large pool of people online have business license of some sort..registering .pros shouldn't be that big a deal to provide some basic information.

Found this on: hexonet.net/news.php#n1260

Interesting to see that they are offering registration of 3 character domains now.

After much back and forth and attempting to put in 3 character domains in their GoLive app; Hexonet let me know that it was a typo in their newsletter. You cannot reg 3 letters as part of .pro 2.0.

I think this is most likely correct because I'm not seeing the news on the .pro registry site anywhere. Can anyone confirm?

Dear Ben,

indeed you discovered an error in out latest newsletter. We truly apologize
this mistake. All 3-letter .pro domains are reseved by the registry so the
minimum characters to register a .PRO domain are 4.

Best regards

(Name removed to protect the innocent)

How does Hexonet pricing work? Some of these sites are for resellers. I'll certainly be looking to transfer my domain portfolio after the release of PRO 2.0 unless encirca lowers their fees to match the market.

I see the lowered prices for domain registration. Anyone know how this works with resellers? Are people registering a block of domains at lowered fees then trying to resell them?

addition to lowering prices, the .PRO registry has decided to make it's company-restricted extension more accessible and less complicated with regards to the identification phase.

The main change is that the domain will be activated immediately: there is no longer a delay prior to the domain's activation.

Finally, the verification process of the company will no longer depend on a single identifiable element.

Still to much spin on this. Looks a long way away from saying .pro can be registered by anyone.
Is there any official press release? Both encirca and gandi dont explain this cleary.
Does anyone understand what is happening as I cant see a press release on the registry.pro site yet.

Yes. It appears that the .PRO registry is in desperation mode. Mass adoption has failed and the ship is sinking. They can't just go open-wide registration after promoting the extension as a safe and professional's TLD with strict requirements, so they're only able to go halfway.
