With development pretty much any reg can be justified
It can't Kate, I've been a developer since 1998, have wasted a lot of cash learning what I did. A crappy keyword is 100x tougher to promote than a decent on topic keyword and the costs do not justify the returns, unless you can build a business around it.
The question is, would Insurance.pro have any edge over Insurance.randomtld. It's a competitive keyword and being in page 20 in google is useless.
Now that's a toughie, I'm sure from an seo perspective, keeping the development constant, a .pro would outperform a cctld and most gtlds except .com/.net/.org/.info/.biz, but then what would insurance.tld cost for those top 5?
but there must not be a lot of .pro websites that have been developed real hard.
Nope, hardly any .pro has been developed the way it should, but its not surprising tbh. I learn't from you actually that staying ahead of the curve in this business is the only way to make money and it's something that has withstood the test of time for me. With .pro and a top 10 keyword like insurance or loan or mortgage, you're ahead of the curve imho.
In terms of getting value in multiple domain auctions, it makes sense to go for the 3rd or 4th best domain and let the big money duke it out for the top 1 or 2 keywords.
Very smart strategy, thanks for sharing, I've done it a few times without realising it or actually pinpointing this.
I think what sdsinc is saying is correct. If a keyword is paying $15 a click, there will be 1000's of developers competing for the top 10 spots on Google. However, I do think Insurance.pro has an edge over Insurance.any because it is a gTLD which helps for SEO and there is a proven branding association between Insurance and Pro.
That is the whole point, if it gives you an edge, however little, you've given your development that extra boost to the next stage, ranking after all is a complex mathematical algorithm, every little bit helps.
To say these are endusers prices is purely speculative.
