JACKSON, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio school district decided Tuesday night to keep a portrait of Jesus hanging in the school where it's been 65 years, denying a federal lawsuit's claim the portrait's display unconstitutionally promotes religion in a public school.

The Jackson City Schools board offered a constitutional justification of its own in voting 4-0 to keep the portrait up in its middle school, saying it must protect students' free speech rights. The vote drew cheers and applause from the dozens of people gathered in the elementary school gymnasium.

I've considered closing this thread but after multiple suggestions, I decided to keep it open. Also, not sure where you're getting this leftie loves extremist Muslim stuff, when a lot of lefties are atheists and there are 7 countries in the world where you can be executed for being Atheist, all officially Islamic. Boy Scouts don't even like Atheists.

Maybe this Performing Arts School could also do a satirical comedy about a homosexual portraying the Prophet of the "Religion of Peace" next year, preferably at the time of The Hadj. Oh, just remembered something else; to make the play even more interesting, they could have a Lesbian portraying the Prophet's eight year old wife.

Now wouldn't that be progressive and open-minded?

That school can do whatever they want. It's more liberal, so I would expect stuff like that. And you should expect more. Centuries of getting religion pushed on everyone, all the bible thumping etc. Take that with the stats I posted before, 1/3 of the younger generation considers themselves non-religious and that will continue to grow. Take the internet and all the information out there, people more informed, tired of all the conflict in the world where religion is a component and so on. You and dawg posted links showing some of the problems that comes from it.

So yeah, expect more of it. Evolution of thought.

Some Repooblicans in the state of North Carolina are trying to establish an official state religion. Nice - override the Constitution of the United States and give yourselves carte blanche to discriminate against other religions while you're at it. And who exactly will decide which religion will be the lucky winner? Even Christianity has thousands of denominations and they all disagree on a lot of issues.. NC already has laws prohibiting atheists from holding office, however they have never been enforced and are probably (at present) unenforceable.

Probably trying to shift the focus of attention off their real problems and make themselves look like great defenders of god and states rights.

If you don't like the constitution, secede. The federal gov't would be all to happy to take away any federal funding and aid they currently provide. All the more for those of us in the other 49.

Even if you agree with them, this would set a very dangerous precedent.

That's crazy. And that's a state I might move to in the future, if that affiliate tax situation ever gets resolved. Then I read as far as taxes, they were 7th worst in the country, New York being #1.

It's those kind of stories that just push them even further into the fringe. It's always Republicans doing this kind of stuff. Palin's husband belonging to that organization that wanted to secede, Rick Perry/Texas or wanting to push one religion over another.

Watched the whole video, Louis Theroux does a good job, seen some other stuff he did. I'm glad a couple of those girls escaped those whackos. Feel sorry for those children having to grow up in an environment like that. Some of the views they have are some of the same views some people have expressed in this thread, just amplified.
