I think I started the first BQB.com auction ever. I'm not sure but it looks like it's up and running.

Excellent idea! If it doesn't compromise security do it! :)

Reece, It's looking good. It's been a bit slow with the auctions (excluding yours and Aussies that I don't consider auctions as they are so quick.). I think the honeymoon novelty period is running out. I have lowered my auction prices to actract more bids and redirected vurg.com to my store. If you remain patient with BQB.com, I think that the rewards will pay off.

I like the stores. I used to spend $20+ a month on eBay to get something similar.

with respect Vurg, I think that 60 days auction is too long on the other side.
14 days is more equilibrate...

Thanks Phil!

The store feature is what literally sold me on using this script rather than one of the hundred other reasonably priced auction scripts out there. Hard to beat a free store + free traffic courtesy of BQB :)

While Alexa shows BQB's rank taking quite a serious hit recently, this isn't actually the case in terms of unique visitor counts (this will likely be reflected when Compete.com displays BQB unique USA traffic for May versus June).

I recently made a modification to BQB's code to make it display 100 domains per page, rather than 20 domains per page -- this reduced total pageviews considerably, however unique visitor counts are actually up from ~500 in late May to 600+ today, peaking on June 23rd with 897 uniques.

Will look into this :)

You're absolutely right Rich that it has to be looked into carefully to avoid compromising security if not done correctly and that's the reason I've shied away from it until now. The main risk would be for domainers using public computers which other people have access to.

Brad's suggestion has been put into place -- if domains are longer than 5 characters they will all need to be pre-approved. This only applies to categories which allow domains longer than 5 characters: "One Word Domains" and "Other Domains". I'll be approving them based on 2 factors:

1 - their overall quality
2 - their price

BQB is a D2D auction site -- all sales are domainer to domainer and all members so far to my knowledge are domainers, so pricing domains as if fishing for an enduser is to put it bluntly a waste of server space on BQB and a waste of every member's time.

This implementation will hopefully reduce the number of complaint emails I receive about the low quality of domains posted in these sections :)

If it was my site I would consider the following.

-Short Domains
-Dictionary Words
-Good Keyword domains (High Word Tracker)
-Major 3 extensions only.

Maybe you could have them submitted for approval or something. It is a great idea, but you have have to make sure the quality remains the same.

In my book the auctions are only 10 days. They start after the first bid. If there was an option that the auction didn't have a time period and that they were 10 days after the 1st bid, I would take that option.

Unfortunately the script only has the functionality to default auctions to 1 particular time after they have received their first bid. It would be very difficult to make sure buyer's completed their transactions should the length of time buyer's bids remain binding be much longer (eg. 60 days) and it might actually scare buyers away.

I can understand how this is an issue at present, but it will hopefully resolve itself as BQB gets more popular. For now, the best thing to do is create a 90 day auction and place the starting bid as what you'd be happy with as a BIN.

This should be quite easy to avoid as long as you provide an option when logging in to 'remember me' which gives the user the choice. (Same as with NP) It then puts the onus on them if there is any security issues becuase it was their decision.

As far as I am aware there arn't any credit card or bank details or ultra sensitive data in the user profiles at BQB but if there is in the future you may need to consider a second level of security whereby you have to log in again to change or use that data in any way. An system GoDaddy use when using the 'credit card on file' payment option.

I'm too paranoid about a rogue hacker to store any sensitive information on BQB :)

While I have no plans to store any sensitive information on BQB, I am looking into a security upgrade and have been speaking to a company which specializes in making websites "hacker unfriendly".

There is currently a lot of damage a rogue hacker or user could cause -- eg. Clicking BIN on all domains which are BIN enabled and then opting not to pay for any of them or even just bidding on everything and then not paying for anything.

I will try to implement a system like on Sedo where a user is only allowed to have a certain number of existing bids at one time. The number will be high enough that it's likely to not cause anyone any trouble, but low enough to prevent someone from ruining everyone's auctions by sending out 1500 bids.

That sounds good to me Rich :)

Will bounce that off the developers. Hoping to make a few changes in coming weeks, such as your suggested login box near the top. Developers are working hard on a bulk lister at the moment and fixing the login box will be the next priority -- I might as well get them to implement this "Remember Me" feature at the same time.

Same here, it's extremely slow for me as well. Might need to boot up the server again.

It's working fine for me here in Canada, but by the sounds of it, it's not working for a good chunk of people.

I'm not sure what's causing the slow speed -- BQB is running on an 8x 2.66ghz dedicated Xeon server with RAID 10 SA-SCSI config, so I don't think it's the server's specs causing the problem and it's likely a problem in the code which is causing far too much load on the server for the amount of traffic being received.

I'll be hiring a company to take care of server upkeep shortly.

Bulk listing capabilities should hopefully be up within 1 week -- undergoing bug testing as we speak :)
