Fake news works in Russia's favor? I see things quite differently. I see Fake News (especially the political one) being engineered and spread out by the super-biased Western Liberal Media in favor of Liberal candidates, not only in the US but in Europe as well.

The Liberal MSM hate Trump, Marine Le Pen, Nigel Farrage, Matteo Salvini, Viktor Orban, Mateusz Morawiecki etc. and keep bombarding us with only negative and false news about these conservative leaders.

Even worse than the Russians that are apparently feeding us with Fake News, are the Western Liberal Media that no longer hide the fact that they hate Conservatives and are bombarding us with massive doses of BS, in collaboration with Twitter, Facebook, Youtube and Google!

I am Canadian now. Since 1987.

I don't believe all that is reported by MSM or other media. Just use common sense. You seem to be too much influenced by your hatred for the left. This is blinding you.

I am politically neutral. But you are part of the population playing into Russia and their allies' hands. If I were them, I would be loving the divisions and narratives coming from the US. Media is not perfect anywhere in the world and has its own biases, but for a free world nation to call its own media "enemy of the people" is a win for every adversary of that nation.

@GILSAN You seem to treat any criticism of Russia as an attack on Trump. Why?

This comment would be so anti-American if you posted it back in the 1980's. But you will be thanking me for raising awareness about Russia. In the meantime, back to sleep.

I don't believe it truly ever ended, except as rhetoric. Cold War was another expression for espionage or spy war. And it was called that because the USA and the USSR did not engage in declared physical warfare. Today it expanded to include cyber war.

I am wondering how the current Polish government is different from the old communist government. Maybe you can explain it to me. And I am not being sarcastic or facetious.

You give Russian way too much credit for America's own-goal. I figured you were from Eastern Europe, as I hear this talk a lot there. Understandably, as Russia would make me nervous too if I had your history with them. But, I think you are looking to the past for clues to the future, and the world has changed too much for that.

The idea that weakening (and she is weakening) Russia can direct the political dialog in the massively larger US is laughable. Russia can barely direct the political dialog in its former client states. The Kardashian family probably influences more Americans than Russia.

Pretty much as Dande and Gilsan said, America is destroying itself. Leftist ideologies have permeated education and media, resulting in increasingly dumber generations with zero awareness of history or civilizations. The media is a joke. If that makes Russia or Putin happy, well who cares? It's completely irrelevant to anything that matters in the US. Whether Putin is laughing or crying like a baby... so what? Russia has a lot of good points, but as international players they are has beens. Not unlike the UK after the last World War. Their time of empire has passed, and some of them still don't want to believe it. China is expanding influence. Russian is not.

Add to this that the conquest of nations is becoming a very unattractive thing to do in the modern world. There is little to be gained and much to be lost. There are few rational reasons to invade and occupy other countries, Only dogmatic ideologies will cause countries to do that - whether it's religion or fighting "to protect our freedoms." (God forbid you should ask anyone in the US to explain how they are freer than most other developed and stable countries that are not at war anywhere.)

Historically, when empires reach the decadence and corruption levels of the US, they collapse. I don't know of any offhand that have come back from the brink. Only some form of collapse will allow the changes needed to rebuild. I am not saying that because I want American people to suffer, because I don't. I would like to see it rebuild and become the great country it once aspired to be. But that's not going to happen without a massive shock to the system. And because of America's dominance, it will be a global shock.

I don't know what that will be, but I don't think Russia will have much to do with it. Major governments are obsolete models of incompetence, greed and corruption for the most part. Where Americans are especially weak is that most still haven't realized that the government will not solve their problems, but is actually the source of most of them. Lots of people are aware, but they simply lack support right now. The only Dem candidate that wants the US out of nation building (what an Orwellian term!) is laughed at or called a traitor (despite being a military veteran). So it's going to be a long messy process, and it's anybody's guess which nations will come out ahead in the end. Some people think one might be Poland, by the way, and they make a good case.

I am Canadian 100% since I was raised there. Polish only by ethnicity. I am proud of both heritages. But I use neither as a reference point.

Russia is not directing the political dialogue, at least not in an overt way. But they are extremely shrewd and manipulative.

This is true only because America is polarized and divided which its adversaries are taking advantage of.

Instead of complaining about this, create a counter education system. Do something better to help future generations. I don't understand why people are criticizing and tearing down instead of doing and creating.

Modern-day conquests involve installing puppet governments and spreading ideologies. It's a lot more cost effective.

Not all media. And you should care if the media is going to report something that means life-or-death to you one day. Why do you think the founders of the US have put freedom of the press in the constitution. Who cares? Well that attitude is the start of the death of a free society.

Russia is much more shrewd and will keep the US unaware until it reaches its goals. It is in their interests to make the US think that they are unimportant and are has beens. That way nothing stands in their way. Russia is expanding their influence in the political sense. China in the economical sense.

People and governments have always been the source of problems since the dawn of history. So what's changed?

Well... when you seem to think that the old Communist regime is no different to the present Capitalist Conservative government, then there is no need for an explanation, as apparently you know it all...

Same as all the Lefties calling Trump a racist and Nazi and all those other colorful names they have called him...

If you follow the world powers in Biblical prophecy, the Anglo-American world power is the final one pictured by the toes in Nebuchadnezzar's dream of the statue that represents all the world powers in history. Written about in the book of Daniel and which starts with Babylon as the first super power. A book that perfectly predicted Greece and the Roman Empire world powers, also Alexander the Great's rise and fall and the separation of his Greek empire into 4 countries ruled by his generals, etc. Unfortunately Poland did not make it to the list. There are no super powers mentioned after the US. Russia will rise as a rival but will not overtake the USA. You don't want to know what happens next.

This BS between the left and the right is just simpleton name calling and truly a waste of energy. But if it makes you happy and sleep better, keep going.

I didn't even touch on that except to explain the direction of the US media, etc., so I don't know why you brought it up. And there was no name-calling, as I don't engage in that. Nor do I put much stock in biblical prophecies, though you are welcome to if it makes you happy and helps you sleep better.

Nobody really has any idea what will happen next, as we are at a point in history that the world has never seen. That's why the old models are not much to go by except to explain human behavior, which tends to remain constant throughout.

I did not bring that up because of anything you posted that I recall. I find your posts well thought out and insightful.

If you do some research you will find that the Bible has predicted every single super-power down to Anglo-America. There is no super-power after. I would not publicly state this and risk my reputation if I didn't do my own research and completely believe it.

    That's in the grander scale.

However, history does tend to repeat itself. And a country like Russia, with an ex-KGB official for president, does not change its goals and ideology just because.

There is nothing new under the sun.

The two dogs barking at each other across an open gate is the perfect analogy of the two countries for me. Both distrust each other since the Cold War era. Both very powerful bullies that will NEVER fight each other, but have no problems in bullying smaller countries, which is becoming harder to do because of public opinion.

There's an old saying... "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer" which I think fits perfectly in what the US-Russia relationship should be. and which I believe Trump is trying to achieve with Putin, but when the Liberal Media are constantly attacking and sabotaging Trump's efforts to improve his working relationship with Putin, then it's an almost impossible task.

I sleep very well at night not worrying about Russia. The rise of China as the next big bully and the spread of Radical Islam are the two main concerns IMO.

Yep... very simpleton, ain't it? We can talk and talk until the cows come home, but we'll never know all the military secrets of both countries and for that reason, I sleep very well at night, not worrying about all the complexities of how both countries can destroy each other, along with the rest of the planet in just a few hours...

"I know your anger, I know your dreams. I've been everything you wanna be."

"You gave me fortune. You gave me fame. You gave me power in YOUR god's name."

"I am every person you need to be."

How could these guys predict the politics so exactly in 2016-2020. At such a young age. Unbelievable.

I love how the girl in the video just shakes her head and turns off the TV. Is that Beyonce?

The Bible was written over the years by wise and educated men who were doubtless familiar with history and had spent time thinking about. So it's not totally miraculous that some might have foreseen the developments they did. And if indeed there is no superpower after, then that could be good news. I don't think the world needs superpowers, or even nation states, anymore. However that's a transformation that will take a long time to play out, long after we are gone, anyway.

But I do think there is something new under the sun. Human civilization has never been so pushed together, so completely linked and so close to global environmental or other disaster. In the past, there has always been someplace to run. Merchants could escape excessive Roman taxes and demands by relocating into "barbarian" lands. The oppressed could flee to America or Australia with ease until just a few decades ago. Now there is no such place, and America is steadily becoming as oppressive as the places they fled. And the reach of empires and governments is like never before with the internet. There is no corner on earth that is completely safe. There will be places that are spared the worst of it, I think. That's the best one can hope for.

We really do need an unprecedented change in human behavior. That's the bad news, because it seems unlikely (unprecedented, in fact!) Current states and institutions are not set up in a way that they can address today's problems effectively - they will make things worse in most cases. Maybe the more likely scenario is the unfolding of many disasters, and a massive shrinking of the world's population. I hope that's not too disorderly or miserable, and that it doesn't cause widespread descent into chaos. I hope my kids will live as peaceful a life as I have had, at least. But it's a concern.

We will just have to see about Russia. They don't worry me as much as China and radical anything. (I don't think radical Islam is the last radical movement we will see.)

Anyway, thanks for joining in. The conversation here has improved as of late - less name-calling, gotchas, and manic hyperbole. Big ideas are worth discussing. The "scandal" du jour, not so much. (Except Bugs Bunny being waterboarded above:unsure:...)

That's a good point. The evil leftist ideologies has eaten so deep in the system that it will require a mass purge of America's own citizens to have a chance of ever recover from this.
