What is Web 2.0, if I may ask? I'm not even aware of Web 1.0, if it exists.

I got it finally. Thanks.

Sure good Web 2.0 domains have value, but we should not forget that what makes a Web 2.0 service successful is still the service itself. Even a very catchy domain cannot save a Web 2.0 service not getting much interest. A classic example is del.icio.us (even that they now operate from delicious.com)

Web2.0 is over, I see no value there. Just get a brandable name for anything, Web2.0 or fried potatoes, it can make you money.

This thread is probably better suited for 2003 than 2010. In that timespan, literally thousands of sites with web 2.0 style names have launched. This was a product of VC money drying up and the startup's inability to buy good keyword domains. We are long past the critical mass of 5, 6, 7 letter brandabale domain building. Plus, over the past year I have noticed more startups using pretty good keyword domains than in previous years. Though that is probably an effect of a sagging domain market and the startups getting good prices.

In any event, you can't dispute the power of the pure brandable.... but this is a very difficult market for domainers to corner since there is too much ground to cover. A buyout or anything close to it is impossible.

please define what a web 3 site will do and look like ?

With pleasure!

Web 2.0 with smarter accountability.

I just bought onlinedebating.org as I think that it will be very useful for starting a not-for-profit project teaching people to debate online. Most people are crap at it. Debating clubs are horrible as well because they use formal debating strategies that are useless online.

I believe that online debating is a huge growth industry.

Why?

Target advertising by opinions, not keywords.

Political Campaigns have a very low budget online as they don't know how to do it. I think that in around 5 years they will.

The Namepros environment taught me how to argue well online. Most people I know don't know how to make money by arguing.

I think the forum format sucks bigtime as a debating format. Somebody has to invent a new format. There are probably geeks who will.

i thought you might say 3d content or more videocentric , unsure if a forum is just for debating ? but in a world of reality tv live debates may do ok , after all we got so much out of julia and tonys great debate (just joking) !

This site does.

Thanks for the link. I'm skeptical with this site atm. I think that these guys aren't thinking big enough. Maybe I'm wrong. I think that online debating is like video online services. Lots of people try. Lots of people fail but there will be some clear winners in the long term.
