The Government of Montenegro recognized the potential worldwide appeal that .ME could have and decided it should be operated as a generic name space to gain the maximum benefit for Montenegro. The Government issued a public RFP in November 2007. The goal of the RFP was to find a Registration Agent that could operate an international registry, provide world class backend registry services, and provide the marketing and promotional muscle needed to make .ME a worldwide success. Ultimately, we believe they made an excellent choice!

The contract was awarded to doMEn, d.o.o., a Montenegro based joint venture (doing business as .ME Registry) whose partners are Afilias Limited, GoDaddy.com, Inc., and ME-net d.o.o.

Landrush will start June 6 till June 26, domain names with more than 2 applications will go into Auction.

Go Live on July 17.

SO, what do you all think about the coming .me?

There will be some great ones to be bought. I think this can be a very successful ccTLD. Better then most, apart from .tv and .us.

At GoDaddy and Encirca, sunrise applications are minimum 5 years, and if you register in landrush it's a 2 year minimum:

GoDaddy said:
What is the process for registering .me domains?
To register a .me domain, you submit an application during the appropriate timeframe, which depends on whether you own a trademark or service mark for the domain.

The process for the Sunrise period is:

Complete your application, which includes Domain Name, Trademark Name, Trademark Number, Date Trademark Applied for, Date Trademark Registered, and Trademark Country.
Submit your application during the appropriate timeframe, April 28, 2008 to May 20, 2008. There are no charges for submitting an application, but there is a five-year minimum registration for domains you apply for during the Sunrise period. You can register the domain for up to ten years.
We review applications after the Sunrise period ends to verify whether you submitted the appropriate documentation. We reject applications if you do not have a current registered trademark or servicemark that corresponds to the domain, the words in the domain do not match the text in the trademark or service mark, the trademark or service mark isn't of national significance, or the trademark or service mark was not registered or applied for prior to June 28, 2006.
We automatically award the domains for which we only received one application and the application included the appropriate documentation. If we received multiple requests for the same domain, we auction the domain between the applicants and award it to the highest bidder.
The process for the Landrush period is:

Complete your application and submit it during the appropriate timeframe, May 6, 2008 to June 26, 2008. There are no charges for submitting an application, but there is a two-year minimum registration for domains you apply for during the Landrush period. You can register the domain for up to ten years.
We automatically award the domains for which we only received one application. If we received multiple requests for the same domain, we auction the domain between the applicants and award it to the highest bidder.
There are no restrictions to registering domains after the GoLive period, July 17, 2008.

Domain names can be up to 63 characters, with a minimum of three characters, can contain numbers (a to z), numbers (0 to 9), and single hyphens (except at the beginning, end, third, or fourth character in the domain name). You cannot register domain names with special characters.

Thanks for the list. Looks like they reserved all the names I would want in the extension.

I'm thinkin' it would have been shorter to list the one-worders that aren't reserved.

I agree with the f*ck.me part.

Seems like another way to screw.me out of my hard earned.
Another extension, another way to rob.me and other domainers.

Well they can blow.me

LOL...what a great extension but I'll stick with the main TLD's

They suit.me better. Are a lot cheaper for.me (4.me)

I can't believe how many hacks you could have with this name though. It screams HACK.me

Welcome to me generation, or should that be that be generation.me

(I'm laughing on the inside)

i'm not sure if this would go down the same road as .mobi with the premium names being reserved.
"A list of Premium Names ( PDF, and text file) has been held back, and these names are not currently available for registration. The Registry plans to make these names available in manner(s) to be determined at a later time. "
