I think it is kind of sorrowful that the .com .org .info .us , etc... for the domain name VirginiaTechMassacre has been registered, and that the .com is apparently a for profit site - at least that's the way it looks to me.

Somebody out there is a sick, sick person, IMO.

So, there are still bodies being pulled from buildings, and someone is trying to make money off of them.

The .org looks like a memorial site, at least.

There are different and all kinds of people in this world. Until we're able to fly
out into space, we'll all have to get along (but not necessarily pay attention
to any of them) in this lonely planet we call home.

Just remember that no one is compelled to do anything for others. It's always
a choice.

Yes, very sick indeed. 33 people dead, and someone is trying to make a quick $500 (or close to it). This is the type of people they invented the word "lowlife" for.

Saw a nice one on eBay last night - it was something like VaTechMassacre.com, with a BIN price of $1 million, and this loser said "Buy it at the BIN price and I will donate 98% to the victims' families!"

Sigh.

Most people are basically good, right??

Disgusting - VirginiaTechMassacre.net

How fast the vultures descend. It only took 24 hours and already all the domain names are registered. This one in particular caught my eye thanks to another thread. I took it upon myself to post the whois information, as the individual was so kind to leave it. After responding with information, it struck me as ironic that the address on the whois is not more than a few miles from my home.

With a picture of the killer on the page and the words "Hot Domain For Sale" that was more than I could take. This tragedy didnt physically effect me, but it struck a nerve deep within.

This really bothered me. So, I called the number. It went straight to voice mail. Although its hard to recall what I said, I believe it was something along these lines,

"I wanted to call you and ask if you thought it was morally acceptable to profit off of tragedy? I wanted to let you know Im not a religious person, but I found what your doing to be unquestionably wrong. Ive posted your whois information to anyone who might care, and I hope you get enough phone calls to make you delete this domain name or atleast give all profit to charity. Good day."

I guess normally Im all about the first amendment, but the truth is, this just didnt seem right... and thanks to the freedom of speech, Im going to let him know how I feel about it.

Justin

PS - I hope moderators at NP will make a charity available to donate for the victims and their families of this tragedy.

Ha, how ironic... who's been discovered now! The more posts people do, the more this fool will see his name on the internet someday, and what people thought of him!! Lowlife.

The same thing happened after Katrina. As I recall there was some turd of a NP member who reg'd them. He tried like hell to justify it and even said he wasn't against profitting from it. It may be him.

Don't build a straw man argument. Let's stay on topic. The topic du jour is reaction to people registering and profiting from disaster related names.

Let's not get into a discussion about what "evil" is. What equity may have been talking about is such a despicable act that he could not convey it in any other words other than evil.

When I first saw the news on tv I was somewhat in shock.. And very upset for the families.. I hoped that everyone was ok and thought alot about the world we live in today. I called a close friend in that area to check on him and I continued to watch the story develop on tv.

Within about 30min maybe less, being the domainer I am. I started thinking of possible DNs to mark this trajedy. Then I immedietly decided not too because of the pain and trajedy surrounding this. Even if the DN got a ton of traffic I wouldn't feel right profiting from someone elses loss.

Even though I choose not to register any tragedy related DNs, I don't hate on or judge the people that do.

Let's try not to judge each other so much.. Some of these names, could be used for memorial sites in the future, although I do think anyone who registered one so quickly is most likely looking for a profit.

What about other horrible things that have happend and the DNs associated with them?

Holocaust
Hiroshima
Oklahoma City Bombing
Columbine
Pearl Harbor
911
Waco,TX
Iraq

With the way us humans are, this list could go on forever.... sad.

How much time needs to go by before it is acceptable to register a domain name associated with a tragedy? Perhaps no time is long enough if you don't have a good use for the name.

While we're on the subject (kind of) I feel the same way about all those MFA websites about mesothelioma. Why is that okay just because lawyers are paying outrageous amounts for it? If the Anti-Gun Coalition was paying that for "Virginia Tech" keywords, would any of you think differently?

When I see those sites I picture a mother that is looking for a cure for her child who has cancer and the next day someone bragging about his "$5 click" and getting praised for it. I think Google and the other ad companies should donate those amounts to charity. Then we wouldn't mind a $0,00 click every once in a while (well, most of us).

Do such sales threads need to be shut down if people don't pay attention to
them to begin with?
