Oh I crack myself up... Another "official" discussion thread.

But really, I had to do it!

The new James Bond movie Quantum of Solace came out today, so instead of spending $20 to go the movies, my wife and I watched Dr. No, the first James Bond movie.

This was my first time watching it... I loved it! A 1962 movie with all-time legend Sean Connery as 007.

What's YOUR favorite James Bond movie?

Seems nobody's interested. Maybe these younger guys think it's all gadgets and gizmos. I dunno - all the Connery ones are great. But, I think it's the Spy Who Loved Me that Was the Best book. A girl Bond deeply loves and wants to marry gets killed. Turns out she was a double agent. He turns around and reports her death moments later by saying "The bitch is dead."

Cold...

Let's go all out.

Connery - The standard to beat.

Roger Moore - A very pleasant man, but those were cartoonish and shallow versions of Bond. They can all be remade, as far as I'm concerned. All car chases, SFX and bad Duran Duran.

Timothy Dalton - A mistake. The man looks like an actor, and his bedroom scenes were impossible to believe. Maybe if James Bond was gay...

Pierce Brosnan - The best since Bond, but the scripts weren't so hot. And, he is a tad actorish as well.

The blond guy - He looks like a Russian. Putin's nephew or something. Can't get over that. I keep waiting for him to break into a KGB accent and announce that he killed the real Bond and has been acting as a double agent.

Sorry if I'm fussy, but Ian Fleming's books are still near perfectly written novels. The newer movies are at last getting a closer to the spirit. Except for the Russian guy.

Why can't their just be an official James thread?

I'm actually not a fan of James Bond but I have to admit, I turned away from them years ago and I was young and silly back then.

I'm going to hire one out and then give my opinions and see if I end up borrowing the rest.

The games are pretty cool btw ;)

I liked to watch James Bond up until Daniel Craig took the role. He just ain't the James Bond.

As a die hard 007 fan, no one will be able to recreate what Connery has shaped.

Connery - the godfather of all 007 movies. unreachable, uncontested.
Moore - a slapstick version of a wannabe comedian that was ultra stiff
Lazenby - just didn't have it. he also didn't quite get the shot he deserved
Dalton - who? forget it. he was worse than lazenby. i know, that's a shocker.
Brosnan - a tiny bit of fresh air again. too stiff, still.
Craig - unusually edgy and unrefined. knocked it out in "Casino Royale". He's def. second best behind Connery

When they were looking for a new 007, i was thinking that Hugh Jackman could possibly make a good Bond. Think mix of "Wolverine" and Swordfish with a tad bit of Van Helsing into it. On the flipside, 007 has to remain a Brit, no question about it, and that makes Craig the near perfect choice again.

just the .2C from a guy that has seen every single Bond multiple times over. :glasses:

Great reviews above, but I can't understand now Pierce Brosnan would ever be better / more enjoyable to watch than Connerry, IMHO. :|
Oldies but goodies for me ... but I do look forward to seeing this one (and his (Craig's) other, preceeding one)! :music:

Well, I must admit I am a mild fan of the Bond series and as a fan I have collected a couple dot coms that are begging for development (anybody interested ?)

Wouldn't be that difficult to create profiles for each film,

I have BondMovie dot com and 007Movie dot com

The new movie uses 007 dot com and ideally my .coms should be fan sites and later could be sold for a larger sum.......Any ideas?

Is the new movie good or bad? I should probably see it (and the rest I haven't seen which is about 2/3 of them)

I think there are many instances during Quantum of Solace that if you hadn't seen Casino Royale, you wouldn't know what was going on. It was kind of an extension of that first movie and I hope to see each succeeding Bond movie able to stand on it's own.

That said, the stunts and action scenes in Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace are near impossible to match.. edge of the seat stuff and I'm glad to see Bond bleed once in awhile.

I grew up with the Connery movies so they rank first by default. Unlike the rest of you, I did like Dalton best out of the rest until Craig appeared. Craig is definitely how I've always envisioned Bond. Tough, but a guy who cleans up wel in a tuxedo.. hope to see him continue in the franchise.

And just to add:

I never saw Casino Royale so I didn't understand all of Quantam of Solace, but it seemed like a bunch of random action scenes with shaky cameras strung together.

Hi GF,

Thanks for starting this thread, I enjoy James Bond movies!! I love Brosnan the best. he is just perfect for the role of James Bond..dashing, sexy and those eyes LOL never had enough of this guy on screen. But it is real funny to read about the comments on Dalton's bedroom scenes..hehe who knows if Bond is really gay or at least the modern day version of Bond. Lots of strange things happening these days though.

Casino Royale (not the Peter Sellers version) was amazing. Best BOND movie ever! Seriously, I have seen all of them had a Laserdisc collection of them that I used to watch and analyze (omg that sounded nerdy).

The Bond rocks. I have high hopes for new movie. It seems they have upped the ante a bit for action since movies like The Transporter and The Bourne flicks. The Bourne stuff rules.

Anyways..Bond is finally updated to modern times imho and has finally gotten past his family campy love scenes ackwardness that seemed to loom for the past decade.
