The history of Yahoo Messenger (Need help)

Hey guys,

All day I have been trying to find out when Yahoo! INC. publically released their first version of YIM (the Yahoo Instant Messenger) and maybe some more info on that.

Does anyone here know when they released the first version of YIM and maybe any more details that might go along with that?

I have checked WikiPedia, Yahoo's site itself, searched a bazillion times, and haven't found anything.

Can anyone help me with this quick question?
