Hi guys,

Just a few reflections about .ES :

How many people speak spanish in the world?

How many people are learning spanish as a second language?

How many countries speak spanish all over the world?

Language -- Millions of speakers

Chinese 1.200 millions
English 478 millions
Hindi 437 millions
Spanish 400 millions
Russian 284 millions
Arab 225 millions
Portuguese 184 millions
French 125 millions

I think it's important the number of countries that speak a language, not only the number of speakers. How many countries speak chinese or hindi?. Where do people speak german?.

Spanish is official language in 21 countries, and no official in 25 countries. Will be the second language in the world in a few years, after chinese.

many countries + many speakers = success

.ES domains are a good investment, just take a look at that growing hispanic community all over the world, specially in the states.

spanish=español=.es

American domainers are buying .eu as they were crazy. They don't know that nuggets are under their feet :hehe:

Lol i guess americans have finished there part of .us so they are running behind .eu... and yes .es has i think more value than .eu because spanish is spoken all across the world.

felip, why do you have English .com.es domain names in your signature?

you know . . . if .es stands for Spanish & not Spain and all.

.es stands for Espana, or Spain, not spanish. I have spanish .com .net .orgs .info they do fine traffic wise. Spanish tlds like .es .mx do well usually. There are alot of nice .br sites aswell but brazil speak Portuguese

.ES stands for España, you're right. When I say spanish=español=.es I mean that .es is becoming the reference for those who speak spanish.

In Brazil it is compulsory to learn spanish at secondary education. Another good market for the .es . :)

i was thinking .eu will be more successful than .es

eu is more general. the world against the spanish speaker. so the targets group is larger.

.EU will be a fiasco. The leading countries in Europe are: France, Germany, Italy, Spain and U.K. (in alphabetical order). They have their .fr, .de, .it, .es and .co.uk . Nobody needs .eu .

As you say, .eu is more general, but nobody feels identified with it. Believe me, NOBODY likes it in Europe. If someone wants something more general, they go to .com or .net .

.EU is just land for speculation.

I'm afraid that many US domainers are a bit.....confused with the idea of the European Citizenship :)

Hi

I am also from Spain, as Felip.

I disagree with him. I think .eu will launch and many companies will use .eu for their business.
I feel spanish, and I feel european too. I dont think than american people have a wrong idea about us.

.es its for SPAIN . NOT for the SPANISH SPEAKERS COMUNITY.

.es its NOT for latinoamerican countries. Its ONLY for SPAIN. 40.000.000 habitants.

ha, ok

you do have a point out there.

so basically .eu was created by registry to earn money from domaineer ? that could be. so ya , Felips, thks for the clarification :)

Hi xabela,

I'm afraid that you don't decide that. It's the market who does.

My experience is: I've sold six .es during the last two months.
Four buyers come from the USA and two from México. None from Spain.

Those are facts, not words... :)

I heard (in few different sources) that only 3% of Spanish citizens fell Spanish, because most of them identity with region culture. Is it true?

Compare stats .es with .eu :gt:

I live in Europe and like it and identity with it and many other people...
And there is really a lot of reasons to use .eu for European companies. Any way there were a lot of threads about so there is no reason to wrote same points againg.

What is the difference what do US domainers think about it?

And cominig back to the Thread subject...

Felip, why do other spanish language countries need to use spanish ccTLD not their own ccTLD? And if they want word wide domain why should they grab .es not .com .net or other gTLD?

I see it in that way: You belive in .es international future and .eu fiasco because You have good domains at .es and any good .eu ;)

That's a nonsense, what are those sources ?

I live in Europe and like it and identity with it and many other people...

Well, you live in Poland....
It's nice if you identify with Europe, you've just arrived in Europe. It's not a sin, enjoy it !!. But we're talking about something different.

Now, go and ask a german, a british, spaniard, italian, french....
how do they feel?. Do you think than these countries need a european identity?. Just because somebody decided some years ago to create the European Union?.

I have good .es and .com because I decided to invest in them. I didn't invest in .eu because I don't believe in it. Perhaps you own nice .eu and want to show us for appraisal.

I didn`t say that. It was only reply to Your point - that nobody need .EU

:imho: will be very good for business, and wesites about Europe - news, work, education... but not everything. However it will be common extension for all Europeans but i don`t belive it is going to happen nearest 5 or even 15 years... possible never, but who knows ;)

Yes i have many .eu domains because i find them good 2-3 year investment, and i`ll develop some of them.

Many other domainers decided to invest in them, as they also find .eu profitable. And i don`t know why do You think that Germans, Italians and other nations do not like it if they regged so many of them? :gl:

Also i think .es`s are good to invest in them, but i don`t belive they would be international Spanish extension. Faster .eu will be common for all Europeans...

but draming is not sin ;)

Are you joking?.

The only thing we know is that these regs have been made through companies located at Germany, or UK , or Italy, or wherever in Europe. We don't know the nationality of the registrars.

Keep on dreaming... :)

I think .es will have a good future. For SPAIN. its NOT international.

Felip, you have made sales to mexicans..etc, but you dont know what do they want to do with the domain names. Maby they have got a company in Spain or they want to do business in Spain, or maby they want to resell those domain names to spanish companies/people. For speculation.
.es its for SPAIN, only. NOT international.

I also think that .eu will have a good future, but maby we will have to wait more time.

Felip, i am spanish and I feel spanish AND european. Maby you are older than me, and thats why you dont feel that way, european.. ¿?

Your opinion its just that: your opinion. You dont represent the spanish nation, you dont know what everybody in spain think and feel...
just yours.

If not Germans, Italians, Spaniards or other European and even not Americans.... then who? Aliens?! D-:

Seriosly I dont know why You`re so much prejudiced against .EU, maybe political motives?

Anyway time will prove who is right...

Keep on dreaming too! :)

That figure for english seems alittle low, we talking as a first language here? But even that seems a bit low.

US - 300m, 95%+ speak english?
UK - nearly 60m, 100%
Canada
Australia - 15m
New Zealand
A few aftrican countries
Probably lots of other places
