I thought I'd start a new break room thread. The great thing about this thread is you can say whatever the heck you want (except adult) and it's ON TOPIC.

All you have to do is post whatever is in your head when you are here. Simple.

Here are some acronyms we like to use:

YPSBT Your Post Sucks Big Time
YPITDB Your post is the dog's bollox
LPOD - Last Post of Day
FPOD - First....
SPOD - Second.
FPOTWN - Funny Post of the Week Nominee

Grace Delete / DefaultUser / WorldsWorstDomainer will personally thank EVERY SINGLE post in this thread UNTIL someone says something about post count and gets too obsessed about reputations and starts gaming the system etc.

^ That has happened so no more ...was fun while it lasted.

Johname will personally LIKE every post in this thread until he doesn't

No racist, sexist, homophobic material that woudnt be acceptable in the 70s please.
We are ok with boobs and we are ok with men with abs (or whatever it is that makes them attractive). Ogling is healthy. Violence, not accepting that it is shallow and non-meaninful judge of people etc. is not. The most important virtue of this thread is respect for all.

Here are some topics that this thread has had:

I remember way back when, working for a company that did inventories for the HEB stores. And briskets on sale for 29 cents a pound.

I think word is out in my neighborhood that my car is a safe haven for frogs and lizards. I need to research to see if there is something to deter them. Went to start it since I haven't driven it in 2 weeks, and had a few of them looked like they were asleep or dead. I guess car is warmer than outside.

Finished up my healthcare enrollment, got that out of the way.

Speaking of deterrent, since I plan to do more travelling in future but don't want to be gutted by some bear, was wondering if bear spray actually works. It looks like it does:

"Scientists found that bear spray was 92 percent effective in deterring attacks from the three species of North American bears—brown, black and polar— in Alaska between 1985 and 2006; 98 percent of people carrying bear spray who got into close encounters with bears were uninjured."

98% uninjured. Maybe 2% dropped their spray in fear. Was looking for some videos of real events, not demonstrations. I guess if it works for a bear, should work for other animals right.

Bear spray is more potent concentrated pepper spray. I used to carry it, but not too concerned about the 4 legged creatures having had close encounters with polar bears and grizzlies, even recently with a 400lb black bear, but he was too lazy to attack, lol. Not sure if it'll work on wolves... just don't be downwind. :xf.wink:

The real question is, will it protect you from the giant mosquitos up there

I was going to ask if anybody has had a close encounter with a wild animal. I don't know anything about bears, what if that lazy bear wasn't lazy? Bear spray just in case?

Was reading about bear spray vs. guns. Of course bear spray wears off and the animal will be fine. Plus with guns, if you miss, you could be screwed. Then even it you manage a shot, it might take more than 1

If you carry a gun, don't shoot the bear, just shoot a warning shot in the air unless it attacks and by then it's probably too late. I usually just bang a couple rocks together or yell. Most attacks come from surprising them, generally they try to avoid human contact unless provoked (or you're between the mother and her cub). Polar bears are different since they're top predators, though fewer in number they have now become more of a nuisance in some communities in the north - looking for easy meals instead of going out on the ice to hunt seal. Due to Global Warming, pack ice is melting at an increasing pace (Nunavut just posted record warmth for December).
