What do you think of the state of the domain industry and the internet as it stands today?

What is the future drection the domain industry is heading in, and can future growth be sustained in the internet as it has in the past?

I know these types of threads come up from time to time, and i feel it is a good time for one now with confidence at an all time low in the financial markets and the economy in general.

I see some very heated debates going on in certain threads, and i admit i have participated in some myself, it would be good to have a thread dedicated to these issues.
