The best forum software

I am wondering what everyone's choice of forum software and why?

i have always used phpbb because its free... but i hear so many people say to use vbullitin but i just can't see paying 160$ for the owned licenced that you can only use on one site.... is it worth it? if so why???

vBulletin is probably the best paid forum software.

However, my favorite "Free" software is IPB.

I've never really cared for PHPBB.

I picked PHPBB because it was free and it seemed to work with other software (as far as login compatibility) and I like the way it customizes. vBulletin is a necessity if you start getting lots of traffic and need an industrial solution, so it's probably likely a lot of people experiment in PHPBB or IPB until their site takes off and then they transfer to vBulletin and the license fee. It's just a guess.

I like the free version of IPB (1.3final or 2 PF4), I did use phpBB alot before though.

vB 100% regardless of site size, is the most professional in my opinion

I've read some bad things about IPB free version, mostly dealing with security flaws and hacked sites.

vBulletin is the best, but most people online are cheap and don't want to pay for software. The free forums are pretty much all the same.

I have 2 vbulletin forums and the script that vbulletin does is very easy to understand, i'm a newbie to all the running forums, but i just love vbulletin
