Some people say LLL.com's for the most solid ROI

I have recently heard that LL.net / org's, if under $12k, are great investments

I may be labeled an "Idiot" by the legacy domainers on this thread, but since I can not afford to compete in the .com/.net/.org/ and even the .us arena, I tried to 'look ahead' and get some AMAZING .tv's, .cc's and even a few really good .infos.

I focused on .tvs that were extremely similar to PREMIUM, ULTRA-EXPENSIVE .tvs (and I think in some cases even better) that were NOT (for whatever strange reason) PREMIUM that I could pick up for Reg fee and did this over and over.

Will my strategy pay off? Only time will tell--but I still remeber when I couldnt get ANYBODY to pay me 1k for any of my 3-letter .coms about 3 years ago that EVERYBODY was begging to buy off me for 5K+ last year.

Hopefully 5 years from now all my xx domains are xxxxxxxxxxxxx (LOL) domains!

Just my opinion:

For steady appreciation over a period of time - LLL.xx in any extension fully registered. Perhaps not .COM, many believe it has peaked. No strong opinion on this myself, haven't researched enough, but I know I'd never pay $5,000 for a WXZ.

For the chance of a big payout for a single domain - good generic phrases are still out there to be found, although the best of the best of course are long since gone.

Perhaps the most rewarding but also the most time consuming - develop a good site, market it well, keep it fresh and watch the income grow.

A topic very dear to all our hearts, be interesting to see other's posts.

I like the bottom end of the market. I have initially focussed my attention to short and brandable domains but hope to grow my range of domains with time. In order to make money this way I need to sell in high volume and most of my market are resellers/investors. My collection is steadily growing in value and I am starting to get more value from repeat customers. It is sad sometimes to see many domains sell at prices I'm not happy with but I have also seen benefits from giving customers good value.

Are those customers coming to you because you have actual sale prices listed that are reasonable vs 'make offer', or are you actively marketing to end users?

My customers are coming from eBay, TDNAM, Namepros and my website (I direct all type-in traffic to my website). I'm planning on doing more offline activity and other forms of marketing in the future.

I try and avoid the make-offer sales. Make-offer sales are for high priced domains. People who argue over small amounts probably won't be doing bulk purchasing off me in the future and so I don't waste my time with it. I mainly work with auctions and buy-now features and have wholesale bulk-pricing for working directly with customers.

You dont need to invest anything to make money on domains.
Being the middleman works too.
Be the buyer to the seller.
Be the seller to the buyer.

I like the sound of just buying rich keyword domains, with high OverTure pref for under 10$, parking them up and hopefully making the 10$ for each domain back over the course of the year with PPC, with the possibility someone will make an offer to buy.

Although only been in this "industry" for a year, I have found some nice success with picking up older expiring names, as well as contacting owner of older names and offering to purchase. I have purchased a few very nice names at nice prices and recieved offers of 3-5x the purchase price. But, I have also stayed away from most TLD's (except obviously .com).

I dont think you could go past .mobi's at this point in time looks to have a great future!!

At this time my favourite domaining industry is catching ccTLDs. I have hundrets of .pl (Poland where I live) .in (India) .ru (Russia) and .eu (that I`m not sure if it was good idea to reg 50 eus) and I have highest return with them...
:hehe:

Now I also try to catch dropped domains with traffic as probably everyone dreams his names earn on themself? :) But I`m not good at it yet...

But in the nearest future I`m going to start own business - own business portals and web design, hosting and register services. IMO that is best way to earn on it if You have good ideas, manager skills, expirience and a lot of money and time ;)

In short term, developing an even worthless domain can lead to big profits, and it works without "if"'s. Imho developement is the way to go if you dont want to take any risk. Otherwise smart domain investments, can be LLL, can be high-overture domains, can be new technologies, the only thing is to be always uptodate.

My best ROI is pro-actively selling to potential end users by calling them and sending personalized emails.

I think there are two kinds of value of domain names, one is the value of the domain name itself, such as the original good, short and easy to remember, with a special meaning of the domain name, this kind of domain name can be sold at a high price, but after all, such a domain name is limited.
The other is the value of the domain name given by the brand, the domain name itself is not special, but because of the brand let everyone know. This is where developing your own website gives value to the domain name.
