Hi everyone! The 3D market appears to be exploding! Record takes at the box office by movies such as Avatar and Alice in Wonderland and the announcement this week of the new 3D TV which is set to hit markets shortly have helped buoy interest in 3D multimedia platforms. Even the major American television network NBC has jumped in and will be broadcasting the NCAA Final Four basketball games in 3D!

A direct beneficiary from this renewed interest and greatly improved 3D technology is the domain business. Some of you had foresight many years ago and reg'd great names early on. Others (myself included) have only become aquainted with 3D domaining more recently, but see the huge potential this market has opened up for domainers.

Let this be the place for you to show off your 3D domain names. Ask for opinions, marketing strategies or even an appraisal or guesstimation of value. Also, feel free to post any relevant news releases/articles related to the 3D industry.

why dubdub... do u really not see espn 3d getting the ball rolling?
this will be the first CONSTANT in 3d broadcasting and the first time anyone can see 3d in their homes on a regular basis.

It was actually a drop that went to auction at snapnames and original winner didnt pay. Good pick up imo.

But at the and of the day, question is - are you going to produce climbing videos, in 3D, and publish them on that site, for $5 monthly adsense revenue? I guess not. Will some climbing related company open new site dedicated to climbing videos, in 3D? Low chance. And if that happens, will they pay you $$$ for the domain? Very low chance again.

Above question can aply to any domain somebody reg with obscure dev plans on their mind. Hapend to me, I guess I dropped more than 100 domains I was sure for that somebody will have dev plans for them and will buy it from me

You are right. But i should add one idea more. We shouldn't think always very very logic like you. I sold some names which are not good at all for me but there were someone to buy them from me. They didn't pay XXX but it was 10 more than reg fee

Yes, I also sold 10 (in $100 range) 'not good' domains from my above example of 100 domains I dropped. But to sell those 10, I had to renew 90-100 others for 2 years. The point is, you'll probably sell 1 out of 10 or 15 bad domains, but its not very good business, especially when it comes to renewals, hosting fees, time envolved etc.

Of course, there is always 'lottery chance' that you will sell that one domain for $$$$$$, but as I said before, I wouldnt make my plans on lottery

The problem here is that 3D loses its effect in wide angle shots, which is how the major sports are broadcasted so that we can see all of the action. 3D would then come into play only during replays using various camera angles down closer to the action.

It would work for golf, boxing and tennis though. Possibly UFC if the depth of field is really necessary in that sport. Not exactly the sports than can put 3D sports over though.

I think the wildcard here is actually WWE pro wrestling, but they were slow to adopt even HD.

Events in 3D for ESPN will be shot with different Equipment made for 3D. Its not a regular broadcast of a sporting event converted to 3D. Thats why the selection will be limited to certain events. It will be a completely different broadcast.

So you are saying that the wide angle view will not be used and that everything will be down on the field where you can't get a good view of all the action?
