I've seen some posts, I don't think here, of people selling domains and pointing to the LeapFish's free online appraisal and using it to set the price for their domains.

1) Are these newbies . . .because some domains are really bad.

2) Is it just are marketing tool, "Well as you can see LeapFish.com believes my site is worth $xxx".

What do you guys think about online appraisal tools. I think they are pretty innacurate.

Most free appraisals are complete bs. However they can give a good ballpark figure. But i personally, wouldnt trust them.

Leapfish is a known crappy automatic appraisal site. Never look at what any automatic appraisal says or really any for that matter. Pay what you think the domain/site is worth.

i will rely more statbrain.com to estimate traffic on a site but not on a domain appraisal tool, treat them as guide :IMHO: the owner still decides the pricing on how much effort he poured on the development/financing of the said domain.

however, I think it does look a little better for the seller if the seller refers to some appraisal number

i would imagine that the algorithm for accurately appraising domains is much more complex than any automatic appraisal programs out there. it would also have to be constantly updated and tweaked etc...

1 out every 10 names posted get appraised

I will appraise those 9 remaining names -- reg fee. The good domains almost always get an appraisal. If you have a good name that has not been appraised, just bump it back to the top after a few days.

leapfish only comes close once in a while, and usually only if the domain is a website. For example, dubaiproperty.com currently at around 20K is appraised at $21.00 by leapfish...no archives score, which is big to them.

Once they gave me 2 values for same site in different times in same day. Automated appraised are useless.

Yup, I totally agree here. If I enter a newly registered domain they say it's worth $98. And that's not true.

I also own Gazotto.com which they claim is worth $10 400. And there's no way I'd find a buyer willing to spend that much on the site. (It's probably worth $200 - $500 with adsense and link revenue).
