How many times have you been stuck here
and seen this page pop up?

NP30secondwait.jpg

Then you waited...........

and you are sure you waited your full 30 seconds,
then Bam...
up comes the "Wait 30 seconds before searching" page once again!

What is the meaning of having to wait for specifically "30" seconds?
I mean is there a difference in changing that wait period to 2 seconds,
or eliminating it all together? It is very annoying sometimes.

Ya know I still love my NamePros, but c'mon...

Considering how intensive searches can be on a database of this size, some type of limit is needed.

Hey Eric,
Thanks for your reply.
Yes, That makes sense...a 30 second delay while awaiting search results but,
A lot of the times that is not the case.

What about just going back to the button - "New Posts"?
Why would that need a 30 second between search time?

Thx GeoOwners,
I'm glad you posted that.
I feel the same way. When it becomes frustrating to get whatever info you're looking for,
ya just wanna go somewhere else that will load easier and quicker.

The way vBulletin was programmed, anything that involves searching will get the limit - that's how they have "New Posts" set to work.

As far as the DNF comments - DNF only has roughly 1/3 the number of posts we have here at NamePros.

First off,
I should have commented earlier on your title...
NPQ's PA, Slave, and On Call Coder

I had no idea that was a part of the vbulletin software.
Since you are a coder, Is there any way to eliminate that when just searching for something that is not soo "search intensive", like the "New Posts"? I mean, the New Posts haven't changed at all, but if you wait 30 seconds, then of course they can change so it seems like an immediate "New Posts" search could be possible, if that code is able to be modified at all???

My Development skills are very rookie-ish, so I have no idea if it is possible at all but If so,
and it ever loses NP any traffic because of any wait time, It might be worth checking into?

Thanks.

I had an account there but don't ever use it, and to tell you the truth I forgot my UserName and Password.
Don't Worry, One domaining Forum addiction is MORE than enough for me right now.

I think what Eric is mostly referring to here is the number of database calls that would be permissible if we lifted any type of limit. That would jack things up if we manipulated the code to remove limits.

From a security perspective, I like the limit also, because it'd be quite easy to have an automated system submit non-stop searches which would bring the site to a complete halt.
