Hi all!

I have 2 serious offers to buy the listed domain. Please do your best to appraise it before I potentially sell. Part of me thinks it's best to hold it!

Thanks,
Keith

Well, let's compare it to SmartPhones.com that sold for $95k
SmartPhones.net $11k

I think that's at least a low - mid 5 figure domain. If you received a 4 figure offer, I'd counter.

Smart Technology will be the future of firearms.

Try and reach out to security firms of the rich and famous. There are "smart guns" (shotgun shells, usually 10+ in a panel hidden in the wall, to blast an enormous amount of rounds instantaneously in the direction of intruders) on the market today. Unfortunately illegal in the US.

That's a smart security system available; at a high price and somewhat demand, today.

guns will never be smart, until they can refuse to shoot someone.

however, I'd have the name parked, just so I can gauge traffic if any, before considering offers.

the tech ain't going nowhere soon, so you got time to be patient.

imo...

Really? I'm sure there are motion detecting versions as well (start @ 7:30)

I always though of "smart guns" as technology that would cause the gun to only recognize "authorized" users. I believe the ones that are RFID chipped work, but the ones that are based on grip strength, hand size, etc. are still a little buggy.

Great name. This is definitely tech that is in play right now and will likely become much bigger based on trends in gun laws.

I would think this one is worth at least low five figures maybe 15-25K. I don't think you need to rush a sale on this, as you should get a steady stream of offers. If you don't need to cash in right now, set a high five figure or low six figure price on it, and see where the offers come in.

I'm really opposed to this technology. I like my guns low tech with iron sights. Less possibility of technical errors. SmartGuns = me handling one.

I believe there will be a micro-niche market; compared to the entire gun market, for smart guns that allow only authorized users to use one.

In my home state of Washington, we've got I-594 on the ballot, which can make a felon out of someone borrowing a gun. So, you are correct about stricter gun laws, we just need dumber guns and smarter people to use them. :)

I agree that the technology here actually hurts gun rights overall. I believe that is why they have been so slow to get released and I believe the NRA has come out strongly against them. Once they are common and the technology is relatively bug free, there will be a ton of new laws rolled out like the one in New Jersey that mandate smart gun use. Not sure that kind of mandate can pass the courts, but I'm sure we will see.

Not the kind of technology that I want to find out doesn't work at 3am with someone breaking in the house.

True that.

Overall, I think your valuation is on the target; hopefully the prospective buyers are in that range, otherwise I would hold it.

Thanks guys.

I have 2 offers, both high $x,xxx. It may be wise to wait for market development, but then again, could be bad to pass up money on the table...

With two offers can you start an auction?

I agree this field will grow. Also look beyond just firearms - paintguns, sprayguns, could be a film title, tech for guiding projectiles after they leave a weapon - I believe that is coming, may involve a weapon that you keep pointing or smart munitions.

If you have two "opening" offers at high X,XXX then you should be able to get well into five figures from there. As carob mentioned, an auction might be a good option. If it goes to auction, do some marketing to try and pull in some additional bidders.

i wouldn't auction this name, unless "reserve" is already at a price i'd be happy to sell for.

If you are desperate, sell. If not, counter for $20k and see where it takes you.

I say high $x,xxx is too low.

I suspect this could fetch $20,000-60,000+ if you're willing to hold onto it for a while as necessary.

This is a superb name. And it may be the best name available for a whole future market. I wouldn't consider anything under $20K. As soon as a real "smart gun" comes out, and the floodgates open, it's going to be a killer domain worth even more. if you can afford it, keep it and tease buyers. I wouldn't be surprised if the NRA wants it just to stop someone from using it.

SmartGun.com is owned by Marchex/Archeo and I don't think they would sell for x,xxx.

SmartGuns.com would be as valuable as the singular if not more, I agree with -T- about the valuation.

Definitely around low-mid $xx,xxx!
