Tesco is to launch a range of budget own-brand PC software, in a move that will pitch the grocery giant against the likes of Microsoft and Symantec.

For those of you who don't know, Tesco is the largest supermarket chain in the UK, with £1 in 8 of all Britain's money being spent in a Tesco store! Sounds like a weird move to me though.

Hopefully it won't be on par with Tesco Value Products :hehe:

I bet they will. Maybe Waitrose will start doing Mac software so I don't have to miss out.

Target audience is likely to be the "mums who buy the kids' £299 computer from Debenhams for £799 on interest-free credit" types methinks.

I personally will not be holding my breath to see what they produce, Tesco are putting their fingers into way too much stuff. I doubt they will do a good job with software.

I'm inclined to think that they won't make the software themselves, but simply put their label to another company's product, which could be interesting. (Like Microsoft Zune say, as it actually a Toshiba product)
