China Is Making Domain Name History

Short domains have always been valuable, but if you’re a company today and want to own a short domain name, your price just became a lot higher. And I mean a lot.

• All five-number dot coms are now registered.
• All five-number dot nets are now registered.
• All six-number dot coms are now registered.
• All seven-number dot coms beginning with three eights, ending with three eights or having almost any repeatable pattern are now registered.
• All four-letter .orgs with premium Chinese letters are now registered.
• Even with eight-number dot-com domains, of which there are one hundred million, it’s getting hard to find any of the popular patterns that don’t include a zero or four.

The influential article features ChaoMi.cc and concludes that "Short domain names are commodities now".

Actually, I don't think the number domains are good choices. Coz, it should be difficult to memorize the numbers. What do you think?

Sweet! Glad I got some triple 8 repeaters. Since a large volume of the 5 and 6 N domains have concentrated ownership it makes sense that prices will rise for the 7 N etc. at a reasonable rate as end user adoption grows. This will happen for excellent combos first. Domains getting coverage on techcrunch... nice!

Simply put, now that roughly half the globe has access and use of the internet

it makes sense the demand for domains is increasing.

China needs inventory. Huge market! More than double USA.

Numbers are preferred simply because they are more versatile in the Chinese culture.

It takes much less effort than the use of their characters.

The number 4 also stands for world and is widely used in spite of most reporting only the

death meaning. 4dotcn one of the largest domain platforms in China is a great example.

the area code 400 is another. (Some also report 0 as less desirable)

The middle class makes up nearly 15% of the world’s total adult population, or about 664 million people. Out of that total, nearly 110 million were Chinese, and 92 million were Americans with wealth between $50,000 and $500,000

China's population prefer to invest in global assets rather than local which is what investing of any category is moving toward. They are also investing heavily in Art.

Before the China rush there were approx. 260 million registered domains.

The India rush is coming and combined the investors from just these 2 regions will double

the number of registered domains.

The Rush - China and India now have their own "start-up, investment, innovation climate"

The Globe is no longer reliant on the West to innovate.

Shorts have become a commodity easy to hold and trade Globally.

2016 will be another record year and when the new Tld’s become known in a year or two

all of the popular new Tld shorts will be bought out as well. Emphasis on popular, which the market has yet to identify.

The kettle is simmering moving towards boiling. No bubble on the horizon not taking into account any Geo or political issues that would affect the global economy.

People have invested in property like forever, - that don't have end users.

This is Digital property. No one would say the internet is speculative venture. Everyone

would say it is much more than that. Domains are the highway of the internet frontier.
