One of those in the domain industry whose opinion I greatly respect, Alan Dunn, has made a lot of inroads in equating the value of domain names to commodities at least when it come to those “Chinese Domains”; ultra short domains with single, double and triple characters .
If we are just moving money between domainers, be they in the US or in China or otherwise around the world, domain names which are just a series of letters, numbers or combinations thereof, seem to have an artificial value, that can change daily, and not supported by any underlying fundamentals, and are troubling.
99% of these domain registrations have nothing to do with the left of the dot vs. the right of the dot, they are just letters and/or numbers or keywords or a combination thereof on the left combined with the right. with those registrants trying to make a return...

Do bitcoins also have
1. renewal fees
2. High cost of transactions (leaving 2% to 20% with the likes of dn, escrow, flippa, afternic)
3. Better patterns, unlucky numbers etc?

In Chinese terms quality domains are the new stock/ property market and a great opportunity to launder money, or at least clean it out of China.

I am covering my bases and am buying both domains and BTC :) There is about 25 trillion dollars of savings from the chinese and they will have to be take out one way or another when the yuan deflates...

This is something I have realized a while back when the Chinese Boom started...

Think about it.... u buy domains for X amount in USD and lets say domains start to become sort of a currency in its own in China... then when you sell the domains, you ask the buyer to pay you in BTC.

Seems like an effective way to move money around if you ask me.

The difference is that bitcoin is bitcoin. 1 bitcoin always = 1 bitcoin. While 1 domain in most cases ≠ 1 domain. Great value for one, pure trash for another. This is not even art collecting, where you have attributions and reputable estimations from auction house experts, art critics etc.
