It appears that large companies are finally starting to realize the benefits of owning a powerful generic domain name and they are ponying up large sums of money to join the elite. Publically traded Citrix Online (CTXS) is the latest member to join the "We get it" club with their recent acquisition of team.com which now redirects to their GoToMeeting product page. They acquired GoToMyPC® in 2003 for 225mm. According to their about us page, their suite of software includes Citrix® GoToMyPC® for easy, secure remote PC access from anywhere; Citrix® GoToAssist™ for live, easy remote support; Citrix® GoToMeeting® for online meetings made easy; and Citrix® GoToWebinar™ the industry’s first do-it-yourself solution for Web events. It looks like team.com is being used to promote GoToMeeting.

This deal comes shortly after another service company joined the club. Salesforce.com's recent acquisition of force.com took a staggering 4 years to complete. Purchase price is unknown but one can only imagine.

This is excellent news for our industry as prices will continue to rise as more and more mainstream companies realize the benefits of owning and branding powerful generic domains. Now if we could only purchase the next team.com before "they do"!

Have a great weekend! :sold:

I agree with Labrocca, $300,000 for Team.com is not unreasonable. I can think of a lot of uses for Team.com but there is no obvious cash printing machine commercial use.

"You can't see the forest for the trees." This domain has so much potential (developed) that its hard not to see it being a money machine. However, development could get expensive but the dividends would be well worth it.

I talked with Rich sometime ago at DP. The domain is really good if you save it for the right time. It's not difficult to build a site with lots of traffic with that domain, but I don't understand much about going public.

As for Team.com, it seems a good deal, depending on future usage.

Regarding Guy.com, really no comment... 7x (less expenses, etc) in 1 month...
