Unstoppable Domains โ€” Expired Auctions

TDNAM kills bid sniping

Spaceship Spaceship
Watch
I would appear tdnam has eliminated the option to snipe a bid at the last second. It appears that every expired auction now has a two minute extension when a bid is put in in the last few minutes. There seems to be no end to the extension either, as I participated in a bid that went through several extensions of the close time each time another bidder place a bid.

You used to be able to watch a domain and to keep from making it appear on the "most active" auctions and off the radar of other bidders make a bid in the last few seconds. Now doing so extends the auction by at least two minutes, giving others a chance to see it on the front page lists.

So much for finding a gem and keeping it a secret. :( :td:

I'm glad I bought the names that I got when I did!

Well I guess we all like to snipe once in a while but I lost out on 2 really good names by $1.00 when I couldn't be home to bid in time. I wish Ebay would do this, sorry.

The extra money they make should help recoup the costs lost to the found loopholes and coupon codes. ;)

You can always enter the maximum you're willing to pay and hope you get the name.

I thought GD marked the extended ones with an "A" or something similar.

There used to be some that had the extended feature, and most didn't. Everything I've bid on in the last couple says has had the extension. Even some .ws and .us and .info domains.

The have also added a features showing an icon on on ones that have traffic. That must be working, because I saw a couple of them bid up to higher than normal prices. a week or so, there weren't very many. Now suddenly there are lots with those icons. They must have attached their date from the traffic on the expired names to the auction listings.

Was it a .us name?

I think that is a game anyway to keep us happy and buying, there is no way godaddy doesnt see our thread about GoDaddy loopholes

Not sure if you're aware of this, but right below the "active auctions" is an "ending soon" auction listing which garuantees that regardless of how many bids the domain has, it's still going to get front page exposure for a good bit of time. In fact, the first one on the list ends in 30 minutes, the last front page one ends in 2 hours 10 minutes, so thats considerably more than the 2 minutes you're concerned about... I really don't think the 2 minute extension will have any effect whatsoever, except to level the playing field a bit for bidders...

Before, a domain without bids did not show up on the most active auctions list which shows where someone actually wants a name. All names showed on the ending soon, but that list has thousands of names. By not bidding until the last minute, you had a shot that some people wouldn't find it in the long list or think it had value since there were no bids. If you want to see what someone else has value, just watch the most active list. You won't have to search for the good ones, because they have already been selected by soneone there. The two minute extension gives two minutes to just watch the active list and see what others think are hot enough to bid at the last minute.

Interesting news. I used to hate being sniped on TDNAM.

Today it was travelagency.cc (went for $148, I stopped at $26) and tequila.ws (went for $33, I stopped at $27) that had several extensions at the end I was in on. I won horseracing.ws, but was bid up to $101 at $5 increments (about 10-15 two minute extensions).

Skateboarders.us appeared to have a bunch, but I didn't get involved in that bidding other than an initial bid at about $20. It eventually went to $276.

Another point about TDNAM, where have all the names come from ?

There only used to be about 250,000 - 300,000 names and over the last 2-3 months that's increased to 1,250,000

Is the increase down to expired names?

And the names with ESTIMATED traffic stats - even crappy names with really low numbers are getting bid up. It would help if privateers could enter our stats aswell.

neither sedo or afternic appear to be investing in frequent software updates for their websites and are resting on their easy income, thus letting tdnam slow-burn its way to becoming a serious player as a name seller site. We have already seen the same lethargy re name parking.

Beware bidding based on TDNAM traffic stats, I analyzed a couple domains they estimated would have traffic and I see no way they can get that amount.

Seems to me it's also a good thing...it will drive up sale prices for us when we sell, no?

One thing is frustrating at TDNAM is that they just don't include the domain renewal price in the auction fee. It seems like a mischevious way to get more money out of people than what the person thinks they will have to pay for the domain. I also "like" how TDNAM has kicked up the fee for renewing the domains from the $6.95 price.

Good or bad on auctions always depends if you are primarily a buyer or seller there. I've only watched the expiring names there, so I don't know if it's had any effect on the private listings.

selling there sucks because you have to go through the normal GoDaddy checkout process just to list a name... Of course the balance shows as $0.00, but it's still a pain in the ass. Then it takes 2-3 days for your listing to be added. I don't even have any of my domains listed for sale there because it's a terrible setup.

auto extend is a good feature, we use it on our site
