TDNAM - 12% success rate thus far, average 3 week wait for refund

Of course I'm still waiting for 36 refunds (At least it's only that many), and have gotten a few quality names at "steals".

12% Success rate takes for granted that nothing else is renewed that lowers that rate further. It seems less like bidding and more like gambling. I couldn't be more disappointed (Actually, I could. See my "snapnames" thread of recent).

What makes that worse? I mostly bid on .us names, and apparently a SADIST owns most of them. He always waits until about 30 minutes after the "must-pay-by" deadline to renew them, meaning I can't dodge the $$$'s being in Limbo with GoDaddy.

Even worse? When paying in bulk, GoDaddy is hideously slow in updating the "you've already paid for this" portion, meaning I've paid for the same names multiple times (twice yesterday, joy). That is my own fault, but doesn't ease my pain with the rest of my sorrows.

Actually, I'm not searching hugs (G ;) ) in this thread, but looking for everyone else's success or lack thereof thus far.

12% thus far for me. All that work and bidding and planning and investigating...

Allright, off to see how many other "Your auction has ended" emails I have :( .

Allan, I hear you.

I've picked up some very nice names for cheap $10-$50, I can say with near certainty these are not getting renewed by the previous owner. When these names will actually appear in my account is another story. As for a percentage of 'won' names that end up renewed, I should wait a couple more days to figure out mine because a bunch are coming up right now.

As for refunds, I just recently got mine. After waiting 2 weeks+ for it, I can say my bidding strategy has been forced to change because I can't afford to wind up with tons of money floating out there in limbo.

Something important for TDNAM users - There is a steady flow of nice .US names hitting TDNAM right now, but a high percentage are owned by a couple of well known .US investors, and all of their names will be renewed. This is happening because TDNAM is listing these names prematurely. Do a whois search on names before bidding. Don't bother bidding on names that are obviously going to be renewed, or your action "wins" can result in your money going to limbo land.

If you see the "other" RJ as the contact, don't bother bidding ;)

I have a similar story. I've "won" a numbe of names going back to 5/18. The first week or so, some got credited, some didn't. It's a shame I have to individually account for each one to be sure they credit me. about two weeks ago I got messages saying the domains would be complete last week. Not the first name in my account yet. I have a question in to support on that right now.

The 12% sounds about right, but I haven't done the math here to verify. The prices are right, but there's so much work involved in tracking and trying not to invest in Godaddy's petty cash account when most get renewed. I'm not sure it's actually worth it.

I sent an email suggesting they don't put up for auction until the "mock redemption grace" period when a registrant then has to pony up some real money to renew instead of just a few days after expiration. I made several other suggestions to actually make their accounting easier and not require payment until they definitely have something to give you. I asked that it be forwarded to Bob Parsons, but got no reply even acknowledging my suggestions.

Pretty darn frustrating...
