In light of the current news that Trump is easing / lifting sanctions on Syria. How much of an opportunity do you think this will be for domainers.

I just registered some Syrian related domains and wanted some input.

I hand registered some relative .coms. I think entorno.com sells .sy domains but a bit pricy.

OK, I thought you are talking about .sy for domain hacks. Why on earth would anyone invest in .COM domains for syrian market...they live in middle ages

Oh, this is a bit complicated.

Judging from the current situation, it is not a great opportunity for domain name holders. Although relaxation may lead to some recovery of Syria's economy, improve market vitality, and increase the popularity of domain name transactions, Syria's own Internet infrastructure is relatively weak, and the domain name market has a limited audience. It is impossible to predict whether the subsequent policy will change.

I appreciate your feedback. While I do get the infrastructure issue you mentioned, however, the angle I'm looking at is as follows:

1) More than half the population was living outside. A lot of them in Europe or the USA are tech savvy and have connections in Syria. I am sure with the lifting of sanctions there may be an influx of startups.
2) A lot of gulf money will be poured into Syria.
3) The main concern I have is that whatever period of stability that may occur, it may not be sustainable given the world and geopolitics we are currently witnessing.

Thanks again for your input.

It depends on what happens. If it ends up like Afghanistan did, then no, and sadly, given their reluctance to purge terror from their midst, it's just false hope.

Domain opportunity?
You mean Syria travel-related domains?
Syria business-related domains?
Who wouldn't want to book their next luxury getaway in Syria?
Or invest in this prosperous country?
Do you think the only thing holding back a heavy tourism and commercial boom in Syria is sanctions?
