Surgery for me

Ya, I'm having surgery on Thursday. I have a Thyroglocil duct cist. When still an embryo, your thyroid drops and it leaves behind traces. These traces usually dissappear shortly after, but in some cases, they don't. Usually in childhood, at around 6-10, if the traces are still there, they build up and form a cist. It is a strange cist because it can get infected and it doesn't stop growing (Although its rate is slow). My traces didn't dissappear and my cist just came up. I am almost 15 so it has come up later than it normally would. It is between my chin and my throat. It is the size of a large marble. The surgery takes 2 hours. They have to go in and take our all of the cist and remove about an inch of a small bone in my neck. If they don't get all the little parts of the cist, it will grow back making the next procedure more difficult than the first. This sounds like it will have a painful recovery, but the doc says that the only inconvenience during recovery will be a stiff and sore neck. It shouldn't affect my eating or talking. Doc says I should be back in school the following monday. I shouldn't have too much work to make up :P (Make-up work is the worst part)

Good luck with your operation, and recovery. I understand you about the make-up work part for school, 2 days missed in my English class is like missing 3 quizzes and homework assignments. The good part is, if your school has block scheduling then you'll only need to make up for 4 classes.

Thanks guys. Fortunately the chance of complications is very small and if there are complications, it will most likely be from the anesthesia so the operation is as risk free as any common surgery.

Thanks. Tomorrow's the day. I have to wake up at around 4 est. UGH

Wierd. I get there, get all ready. They give me the pre-anesthesia drugs. The doc comes in and says "I just looked at the ultrasound of your cist and it looks like a swolen lymphnode. I'm going to put you on some antibiotics." UGH! After all that, he just cancels the surgery. I have to stay there for an hour because they gave me the pre-anesthesia. Now I'm at home and am so goofed up, i can barely type. So the surgery is off. If in 2 weeks the antibiotics don't bring the lymphnode back to normal, then I have to go back and have surgery. The doctor is pissing me off. If he told me yesterday, I could have saved myself a trip there at 5 am. If he told me 5 minutes before he did, i wouldn't be goofed up and could've gone to school. The good news is there are 2 tests in school that i can be there for and not have to make them up. YAY!
